Marca = Valencia signs Sergio Canales to one year loan.
[/quote]Shit. I really like Canales and would have loved to sneak in for that little motherfucker.

Good signing for them and he fits into their system well being versatile without being a proper out and out winger. If they get Jagielka too Wenger might have finally grown some balls.

Arsenal trying to sign Mata or not is pretty obvious down to if Fabregas and Nasri are leaving or not.
As it stands now Nasri will be kept on for one more year and Barca are finding it hard to stump up 40 mill £.

Is Arsenal as attractive without their two best players though? Sure, they have a nice stadium, play tippy tappy bellend footy and are in the CL. But they havent won anything for 6 years and their best players are making noises about leaving.

Read on another site that City are interested. Thats that then.

Maybe we can get Adam Johnson..

Apparently Spurs have just bid £22m for him, there is a clause in his contract allowing him to go for that much but it expires 1st of August (Mon), if us Arsenal or City are gonna move for him then it will have to be pretty soon because Valencia have to accept that offer, whether Mata will or not is another matter. That said Spurs coming out with a huge offer like that indicates that Modric is about to get his move to Chelsea

Tottenham Hotspur last night sought to beat Arsenal to the signing of the Valencia forward Juan Mata by tabling a bid worth close to €25m (£22m). Arsenal, whose manager, Arsène Wenger, admitted that Mata is a player he likes, remain the favourites to sign the 23-year-old but are yet to make a formal bid. Initial talks have suggested that Arsenal would offer less than Spurs, at least to begin with.

Mata's preference is to join Arsenal but, with Harry Redknapp making little secret of his pursuit of attacking players over the past six months, Spurs are seeking to force Valencia's hand and bring pressure to bear on the player. Mata's camp, though, is awaiting definitive movement from Arsenal. That may yet depend on the departure of Cesc Fábregas. Sources at Barcelona said they are cautiously optimistic about signing the midfielder – and that it was him or no one.

Mata, whose contract allows him to depart Valencia for €21m before 1 August, is open to a move to the Premier League. He already speaks a little English. Valencia, too, are keen to sell, with the sporting director, Braulio Vázquez, admitting: "We are ready if [Mata] does depart." The Spanish club's huge debt requires the annual sale of key players and Mata looks set to follow the footsteps of David Villa and David Silva to the exit.

According to an agreement reached when Mata last renewed his contract, Valencia are obliged to sell to a foreign club that matches the €21m bar before Monday. Spurs have made an offer that exceeds that minimum fee in order to strengthen their hand.

we obviously preferred Downing.

So? We need a Downing type of player more than Mata. He's an attacking midfielder deployed some times on the wing, Stuart Downing is anatural winger. And that is what we needed the most.

He wont go to Spurs though, so the article is BS.

HR: "Yeah, hey this is Arry Redknapp. What would it cost to sign Mata?"
Llorente "He has a release clause at 21 mill euros"
HR:"Then we offer 25!!"

,
Mata would improve our first team just like Saurez did. Maybe not the same impact but take us a step further. We need players who can makes stuff happen, Mata is that player. I'll be gutted if Spurs sign him. I'll throw shit at my screen in fact.

*puts off visit to ILD*

Dirty protest was the name of my 1st band. We were not very good.

I reckon a bid from us would probably depend on a couple of expensive flops getting shipped out, such as getting either Joe Cole, poulsen or Jovanovic off the wage bill.

In our own minds we were a genius cross between rage against the Machine, asian dub foundation and Billy Bragg.

Yeah it's like everybody knows they are overpaid and shit. Surely some Spanish side remembers a good poulsen??

I blame spurs for getting above their station. They should be signing Joe Cole while we sign Mata. They are fucking up the rotation... For some reason they think they are better than that now. Its bales fault. Puff puff give!

For those asking. Spurs offer for Mata was good for VCF but player not convinced. Mata would join Utd, Chel, AFC & Arsnl best placed at mo

What no mention of Liverpool? I thought we'd be first choice, I thought we were just being picky.

I suspect the rumour oncy heard of mata changing kits at half time was slightly...exaggerated.

Was Downing first choice or second choice to Young?

I think downing was kenny's first choice all along as was carroll.

that's the way i see it also ....although i am sure when/if these transfers turn to shit that Comolli will get the blame .
Ok we might have sounded Mata out to be told he'll only move to a champs league team , but i really think they wanted downing so I'll be shocked if we sign someone like mata. Hope i'm wrong like .

On a side note , i wonder how rafa would have spent the money if he finally had it . I'd say he'd still be able to attract a Mata or a Cazorla at least .
