There's deffo legs in us trying to sign Mata. My gut feeling is we're trying to sign several top class players but we're struggling to attract such players. I still expect us to be in the mix next year under Kenny.

If we're trying that's fair enough. If we don't make a real attempt to sign Mata, or if we have him as a secondary choice to Downing (As I've read somewhere) then it really is unforgivable.

The Spanish transfer market doesn't open until July so have faith. If it's not going to be Mata Kenny and FSG will have at least one ace up their sleeves to show intent.

@rorysmith_tel: And, for the fourth time, you might not want to believe it, but #LFC are not going to sign Mata any time soon.

GAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
[/quote]I will literally wait till this cunt goes to sleep and squat over him and drape my sack over his nostrils until he coughs and splutters awake, meaning he'll be unproductive all the next day.
Twat.

We've been making a real attempt to sign Mata for several months mate. The clubs working it's tits off to try and get the best players out there (who will come) who fit into Kennys plan and also invest in up and coming premium talent. I like the look of Henderson - he looks a good pass and move one touch player who will fit into Kennys footballing system and philosophy. He's got to work his cock off to get there though.

People expect miracles at the age of 20 these days. I remember Gerrard getting his debut at 19. For that season and the next he looked a little off the pace and out of sorts but, through hard work and effort, became one of the world's top midfielders. Now if he'd have played for another team at the time and we'd have paid £8m for him at the age of 20 people would be saying he's "only worth £3-4m" or something.

The clubs changed fundamentally. It has a plan and a structured approach for what it wants on and off the field. It's not just a case of buying the best players out there (who we'll struggle to attract because we're not in Europe and not thick arse rich cunts like City) and building a system around them. We'll buy the best players available who'll fit into the system Kenny is defining. A system that showed huge improvements when he took over last year and with a £35m striker (yeh I know jurys out) and Steven Gerrard out injured. They'll be like two new signings themselves.

Most of all though. I wish people would stop getting all arsey and/or panicky over signings etc.. We've no idea truly what's going on in the club transfer wise - who we've approached and who we haven't and, at the end of the day, there's fuck all we can do about it. The players we end up with are the players we'll get. I'll be supporting them to the best of my ability if they pull on a red shirt as long as they play to the best of theirs and give 100%.

Shining post sunny 8)

Yeah agree with all of that, Sunny. I'm just venting because we're seemingly after players who I either don't rate when I've seen them play, or I haven't seen them play too much at all. It doesn't mean I'll support them any less than Gerrard/Suarez because I don't believe they have the same ability. The second they put on the shirt I'll be willing them to do well.

It's just worrying (for me, at least) when you see us being linked to players of a similar level to those who have tried and failed for us before. I discount the likes of Henderson, Wickham in this as they're being bought for their potential. It was more aimed at the likes of Downing and Adam who have been around for a while without setting the world alight. Just like Pennant, Bellamy et al.

I'm just worried that we're going around in circles. I don't doubt that the club would like to sign the best players in the world, but that may not be possible right now (Although Suarez's signing may be evidence to the contrary). Not that I'd know what the club does behind closed doors, I wouldn't want it that way, I'm just forming opinions based on speculation I read in here.

And, to be honest, I'm quite pessimistic when it comes to this sort of stuff anyway!

Hal - Bellamy was above a plodder I thought. pretty good. Downing feels like an improvement on pennant, but still is no flying Dutch winger.

He's not a top 4 striker, and not good enough for a team with hopes of winning the league. Plus he scored about 7 league goals for us. He was an average signing/player for us.

Well jakers if you are bringing stats into it!!!

Yeah fair enough...but what about that goal in barca!!!

Excellent post, Sunny.

It does make me feel a little better knowing the club sees the problem; i've been pulling my hair out the past 2 weeks thinking our transfer targets were being issued by Roy Hodgson.

LFC have bid for Mata. Now you can give me all your "Ben Smith said this and Tony Evans said that" we have made a move for him.

scottslater_ Scott Slater
€15m for Mata, typical low Damien Comolli offer. #LFC

This is one of the few lads on RAWK that are worth listening to. Think he said he knows one of the players and thats where he gets his info.

Every time I see a reply in this thread I get excited. God I'd love to sign Mata. 15million euros is a bit insultingly low. Hopefully we'll negotiate up and get our man.

our tactics for negotiating fees for players is fuckin absurd, offer shit loads straight away for players that arnt really worth it, throw a couple of pennies at players that are fuckin boss

its like sayin "look mate ive just bought this arse tastin sandwich for £20 but i guess il take that four course gourmet meal off ya for 2. fiddy"

JUAN MATA: Forward (Price: €20m)
Rather than being a case of 'if', it's now 'when' and 'who' in regards to Juan Mata's move to England. The forward is the last of Valencia's crown jewels after the sale of the Davids Silva and Villa last summer and financial pressures on the Mestalla club sees Mata being barcoded and put on the market this time around. "The economic situation is delicate but much better," admitted club president, Manuel Llorente, on Valencia's debt of €368m.

Getafe's Dani Parejo has been bought as an apparent replacement for Mata
, who is currently with Spain's U-21 side having volunteered (imagine that) to drop down a level despite being a World Cup winner, so it may be another week or so before Mata's future is resolved.

Anyone who picks up the 23-year-old will not be purchasing a prolific goalscorer but a versatile, 'intelligent' front man who can play across the forward line, but prefers the left-hand side. Mata is a little like Joe Cole but with a basic level of fitness.

if we dont get mata il be gutted, but if he goes anywhere else in england il fuckin chew my dick off in despair
