If he were a piece of crap I'd agree, but (a) I don't think he is and (b) one thing on which we all seemed to agree last season was that our squad was too thin. We defo need options for striker and LW, and Jovanovic has the considerable advantage of combining the two.

we had options for lw last season, babel, riera, benayoun, aurelio.
we had options up front, torres, ngog, kuyt, babel, pacheco.

what good are options? jovanovic won't win us trophies next season nor will he make us better than spurs and city. so what is he for that justifies us paying him a ridiculous wage and signing on fee?

Someone who can come in and do an adequate job (we're not going to get better than that at the moment, and they'd have to be to get the kind of wage/fee you're talking about) on the left wing and/or when Torres is out. Those others weren't genuine options because they weren't good enough or didn't perform well enough (except perhaps for Pacheco who never really got a proper go).

listen to what you are saying. you wan't to pay money, in order to be... adequate. id rather keep the money and promote some youngsters who will play their hearts out in every game.

Molby:â€He’s got real pace and he’ll be an excellent signingâ€
Posted on Tuesday, 15th June 2010 by David Tully

Former Liverpool player Jan Molby believes that potential new signing Milan Jovanovic would be a great addition to the Reds squad. Speaking about Serbia’s performance against Ghana to Liverpoolfc.tv, the former midfielder said of the player:

“I did manage to see him and I felt as though he fell into how Serbia played on the day – they were really disappointing and I’d expected a lot more from them. But I am confident they are better than their display against Ghana and I also know Jovanovic can play. He’s got real pace and he’ll be an excellent signing if we get him. I am not worried – there is much more to come from him.

I'm perfectly well aware of what I'm saying. No successful club signs only galacticos, and throwing too many of those youngsters in too often could well ruin them given the situation this club's currently in. I don't want the team's performance to be just adequate, but (pending new owners) the only way to sign top stars will be to sell our existing ones, and I don't want that either.

Why have we not signed him yet?
The last i read on it, was that he couldn't sign until July the 1st (his contract is then up).

Possible to do pre contract stuff though, no?

I wouldn't know mate.

I think it's pretty certain he'll be our player though, he even made some comments about it not mattering if Rafa was still here or not.

Let's hope so. I saw him successfully take on a man once and beat him, so we know he's better than Riera, Babel et al.

who cares if the young player gets ruined. what is this gay attitude of treating our reserves like some precious thing we have to develop? if you give them a chance and they use it to fuck themselves that's their problem. there's plenty more where they came from.

just because we don't have money to sign good players, we can still at least try to develop our own for hardly any expenditure. that's the next best option. but resigning yourself to picking jovanovic as an adequate replacement is just pointless. where's the plan? what are you looking to do with jovanovic? it's just another nothing long boring and pointless season that you're asking for

There has to be a balance tho; blodding the kids is crucial, but at the same time if quality players can be brought in at reasonable prices then why not?

A lot of people say you have to spend big money to get good players but that's clearly a lazy idea.

It's just a lot harder to unearth them.

From what I saw during the Match, he is no loss to us if we dont get him.

I thougt he looked OK, Mike...but nothing great tho.
That is what we don't need, someone just ok. This forum will explode against those mediocre players. Some of us here expects 11 world beaters in the first team!

I dont want him he is piss poor, never a Liverpool player. Ive not seen him play yet in his defence.

What is bugging me is the Mancs are said to be 1000 million in debt with equally shite owners but you dont really hear about a fire sale at OT and scrabbling around for free transfers?
