Before any moans, SundaySun (linked above) is not owned by newscorp & has no connection to the national shitrag that shares the same name.

So Ashley Young is going to join the scum for less than what we paid for that Henderson lad.

Silly silly season

Ashley Young has 12 months left on his Villa contract, Henderson signed a new 5 year contract with Sunderland last season.
That can't be overlooked.

I just wish people would stop bleating on about this fee for Henderson. Who's to say he won't take this competition with the under 21s by storm which would have added another £5 mil or so onto his price tag?

Young is a talented player but is too prone to blowing hot and cold for my liking. That's certainly going to have to change if he wants to avoid Ferguson's hairdryer. I'm not convinced he'll do well for the Mancs.

Young's a good player and I'm gutted he's going to the Mancs instead of us. Stewart fucking Downing.

I'm hoping he's gonna be there Ryan Babel... All hype, all potential, and do fuck all
Im hoping he's gonna be their Luc Nillis.

I actually prefer Downing to Young. And that's not really a compliment for Downing.
I don't really get the claims Young isn't a good player. He is. If not a little inconsistent, but if there's one place to find that consistency it's at United. I fear he'll be a good signing for them, while Downing will be like the rest of the wingers we've signed in the past 10 years - shit to average.

I've not seen enough of him so I may have it very wrong. but when I have seen him I've been underwhelmed. I don't remember any one stand out goal, piece of skill etc. The main memory I have that springs to mind is him diving for England.

those accurate crosses out of total crosses worries me
To be fair, his main position with Sunderland were in central midfield. 23% accuracy is equivalent to Bale, Downing and Nani's.

Henderson talks about leaving Sunderland to join Liverpool (http://www.sunderlandecho.com/sport/sunderland-afc/chris-young-column/video_henderson_talks_about_leaving_sunderland_to_join_liverpool_1_3478111)

How do we measure accurate crosses exactly?
Presumably it's if some cunt manages to get on the end of them, in which case it's not entirely in the crosees hands.
Now if you had a big lump about six foot three and built like a brick shithouse in there , it might help the ratio.

"Crosser's" hands, old mate. A "crossee" would be somebody who'd just been wellied into the box himself in place of the ball. 😱

Seriously, IMO you've hit on the fundamental problem with all such stats, which is how they're measured and by whom.

Indeed JJ you are right indeed.

Everyone keeps saying the deal was £20 million, but wasn't it significantly less with add-ons?

20m would mean we've won the league/champions league double or something.

Even at 16 million, he is no better than Phil Jones who cost 16 million to the devils.

Except one's a midfielder and the other's predominantly a centre back.

Anyway, I wouldn't put much weight on a few performances for england U-21's. Under the guidance of that fucking hacker Stuart Pearce, they managed to win not one game against 3 inferior teams, were tactically fucking clueless, and not one player could hold their head up high.

Anybody who's see Sunderland over the last year or two would tell you this boy can play. Nowhere near the finished article, but we're buying for the future - and this kid's gonna play a part in that. Fine by me.

Ok, assured by Ryan... but would love to see those stats used by Comoli based on the article which Rosco posted...

People seem to get FAR too carried away on these England performances. Last week everyone was laughing because Jones fucked up and cost England a goal, yesterday he was worth every penny because of how well he brought the ball out of defence. The best way to judge Henderson is when he pulls on a Liverpool shirt and plays in OUR team.

He'll learn more lining up against Gerrard for a week in training than he's probably learnt all Summer of Pearce.

Competely agree Mark. England U-21 under Pearce must have been one of the worst sides I've seen.

And they want to give him a new contract???

The players have the quality - but they play like they have been out on the razz for 3 weeks straight.

Sometimes you have to wonder if a motivator with very little focus on tactics would serve the youngsters better in competitions..

They would get more than enough tactical training at their respective clubs.

I still believe Henderson to be a good bet.

Obviously not setting the world alight during the U21s but as been said few English players did for whatever reason. (SP)

He's got a seemingly good range of ability though and he's build like a proper footballer too. Good physique, height and stature to be a commanding midfielder.

He does seem to have an eye for the pass and he's got decent skill on the ball.

Perhaps not going to be popular view this but he actually reminds me a bit more (from what little I've now seen) of Lampard than Gerrard.

well..... he got the to the final in the last tournament and qualified them again for this one, which considering only 8 teams go is no mean feat, by all accounts both Spain and the Czechs have got excellent teams and the group was very tough.
