Jon Flanagan to Burnley on loan

True dat, and he'll be well up for the game against that lot, whichever shirt he happens to be wearing at the time.

I think most of us remember his form and quality in the only season he has managed to string together a decent amount of games, 2013-14.

When he scored his first goal in a fantastic display against Spurs away. One I was lucky enough to attend. The season when he was given a round of applause by the team after his display in the derby. When he made his England debut at 20 years old.

When his battling, never take a backward step attitude saw praise from fans and players alike.

When his fearsome tackling brought cheers from the stands.

His career has been ruined by injury so far. His return from injury last season did not look promising. There's always been aspects of his game and physical make-up that have raised question marks about his long-term prospects and how far, or high he could get.

But the overall affection for Flanno and willingness for him to succeed is something that fans like you will never understand. And it diminishes you, not Jon Flanagan.

Very affectionately put, wish you could save some of that for Lucas or Markovic.

I like that you gloss over the fact that he was the most dribbled past player in the premiership during that season.

Attitude and grit or whatever only takes you so far. Your affection for him is colouring your judgement.
But whatever floats your boat.

Markovic has shown none of the "grit", quality, temperament, workrate or desire that Flanagan has. Ever.

Why fucking use him as any kind of debating tool?

And I haven't glossed over anything. I've been quite open and honest in that post and many others that there are obvious flaws in his ability and playing style.

I suspect that one of your issues with Flanagan is the fact that he's also English and even worse, Scouse.

Don't like that, do you Modo? Makes you all insecure and not feel like one of the inner circle. Don't worry, it's all in your mind. Like I said in the earlier post, you diminish yourself.

It's not so much the fact that players are Scouse/English which rattles Modo's cage. It's his unshakeable prejudice that we Brits invariably overrate our own. Nothing which doesn't register on the Richter scale will ever come close to moving him from that or his other pet standpoints.

But Flanagan, given his relatively few starts, seem to be a particular favourite topic. It's the added Scouseness that magnifies Modo's hateful insecurity.

Just look:

"Flanagan isn't even in the Europa league squad and Moreno is twice as good as he is"

"So Klopp doesn't rate Flanagan?"

"I understand the sentiments but he's just not good enough."

"Cult hero type player".

"He gets a break because he's scouse."

"It's just cult hero talk".

"Those who collectively made him the most dribbled past defender in the prem".

"I don't think he has what it takes to make it at Liverpool. He's the classic right back, I can't complain about his defending, but his attacking, passing etc. it's just not up to today's standard for a RB. McLaughlan has all that and pace."

"don't fucking make it sound like Flanagan is the new Markus Babbel."

"We fucking mounted a challenge with Flanagan at Lb!"

He was standing exactly where he was supposed to stand. Flanagan wasn't.

I think he should set the corpse on fire now.

Maybe even shoot it in the brain one more time..... with a silver bullet.... stab it in the heart with a wooden stake... And then hide the ashes in a wooden box in a massive warehouse surrounded by millions of identical boxes.

Just to be sure.

Although.... Getting the McCanns to dispose of the body might be more effective...

How about a Viking funeral?

We saw a glimpse of that passion and determination against City last season.
But he' clearly still taking his time getting back to fitness after those 18 months, which is understandable.

A move to Burnley would be good for him and probably key to getting his Liverpool career back on track. If he gets back to full fitness and the form of 13/14 then there is a spot for him in our squad. Maybe not as a starter but a valuble member of the squad.
In certain games you need a Flanagan type player and his passion and love for the club will surely rub off on the other players.

Seeing as he came back early this summer to work on his fitness, and then started Klopp's daily triple sessions, he surely shouldn't need to go anywhere else, probably with less rigorous training regimes, in order to get fit. In fact, I'd be really alarmed if fitness is his real problem now. But he obviously needs to recover his form, and I'd rather see him have a go at left back instead of that bloody imbecile Moreno. Otherwise Burnley seems a decent club for him to go to.

Admittedly, I think some of you overrate certain players but it's not something you should be using as rule against me.
Because in that case you're putting players like Clyne and Sturridge in the same category and they're just as English as Flanagan, Downing, Lallana and others that I really don't rate.

I don't get the Modo baiting.

He's right. Flanagan isn't good enough. We all know it. There's no need to get overly sentimental about the boy and then, in another thread, slag off Joe Allen (who is twice the player Flanagan is)

What a confused post.

Nobody's "baiting" anybody here. It's long established fact that Modo has an agenda about British fans overrating British players (in case you hadn't noticed, he admitted it himself above) and is being called out on it, is all. As for that "we all know it" stuff, you might want to check in with Klopp for one because, unless he's lying through his teeth, he certainly doesn't "know it". Flanagan at his best was good enough - that's why he's being given a chance to get that form back.

Yeah thanks for speaking for us all, given most of the thread is filled with people giving the lad praise, we obviously don't "all" know it.

Can we just not sell our deadwood, I thought Klopp was against the whole loan market anyway.

Flanagan showed in 2014 that he is in fact good enough. He hasn't shown that form since being injured and hopefully can play himself back into that kind of form.

"An agenda about British fans overrating British players"...hahaha.

How dare he?!

Exactly.

Now with Brad Smith leaving we are a wee bit short on full back cover. I hope Flanagan remains.

It could be a chance to get back to form...

Or it could be the shop window.

Look, I might be wrong, but in our current situation I don't see Klopp loaning out a 22yr old fullback that he rates. Flanno was great once but he didn't impress too much on his return. To add to that, I think Klopp prefers a more attacking LB (Clyne has RB). I think if a £5m offer came in from Burnley or some other team, we will sell.

It's a big chance for Joe Maguire - a left back - to impress in the ressies. He's about 20/21, so he's not exactly a kid any more and should be looking to show people he's got the ability to push on now. I'm not sure how Klopp feels about him but he's capable enough to be in the squad these days. But of course we need to get an experienced first team player now for that position. As for cover at RB, I suspect it's thought we're all right. I just hope Flanno now has a really solid season.
