Glen Johnson is not a great defender. The fact is however, he'll likely create more goals at the other end, than he'll concede at our end. I think that's probably the sum Rafa did before he bought him.

I'm delighted with him.

I don't think the importance of Dirk can be underestimated when it comes to Johnson.

To be fair, I don't think Glenjo's that bad a defender, and a few years under Rafa's influence will probably eradicate most of his naivety when it comes to the defensive side of his game.
[/quote]

That is his only flaw eveident at the moment. He is a bit naive at times. He often commits himself to the situation due to his over zealous approach. He needs to be a bit more mature in his approach and play the percentages at times, block crosses coming in, stand up his man etc rather than his usual gung ho approach. However these are minor flaws that Capello and Rafa will surely iron out working with him.
He is a cracking player and some of the crap he is taking is a joke at times. It seems it is now popular to have a go at Johnson. "England weakest link", "He'll be found out etc."...bla bla bla.

Similar accusations were levelled at Ashley Cole when he first started at Arsenal too. In afct it got to such a stage that Wenger deployed him at left-wing for a while to take the pressure off him. Eventually Cole found, as Johnson will, that you can combine great attacking play with a solid defensive output too. It comes through experience gained from Champions League, playing for your country, and alongside good players. Johnson's got all that to come.

I agree, Capello and Rafa will iron on any naivety's Glen has and hopefully he will mature in a player who combined devastating attacking play with allround competent defending. The perfect full back.

On a side note, Evra is on top on his game at the moment. He combines defending and attacking to great effect.

Evra's one of my favourite players in the league. I don't even care that he plays for them, he's just so perfect a full-back.

United now look to him to add that extra man in attack at times. Evra will always try get in behind and his pace and running power is a huge threat. Johson and Evra are the two best full backs in the league. They have the edge over A. Cole and Sagna who weigh in as the next best in the respective positions in my opinion. Bosswinga looked a cracking player in his first season but he hasn't built on that first season promise. Still a good player mind.
