has been diagnosed with testicular cancer and has been told it has spread to his brain. Not much down for him me thinks.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...John-Hartson-diagnosed-with-brain-cancer.html

The 34-year-old was given the news over the weekend after going to hospital last Friday suffering with horrendous headaches.
According to the S**, tests were carried out at the Singleton Hospital in Swansea where Hartson was told the news and where the former Arsenal and West Ham player is believed to be starting a course of chemotherapy.

A close friend told the paper: "He told me he had been complaining of having really bad headaches recently. It reached the stage where he felt something was seriously wrong so went to hospital on Friday.
“The doctors did a load of tests and decided to keep him in over the weekend - they have done every scan and test imaginable and diagnosed that he has testicular cancer which has spread up to his brain.
"But the doctors are upbeat about his prospects and chemotherapy will begin right away - big John’s not giving up hope."
Hartson joined Celtic in 2001 after Martin O'Neill signed him from Coventry City for £6 million. Central to the club's success, he helped his side reach the Uefa Cup final in 2005 - the same year he was named the Scottish Football Writers' Player of the Year.
The following season - and his final year in the SPL - Hartson flurry of goals helped his side win the league.
Before his five seasons in Scotland, Hartson played with Arsenal, West Ham and Wimbledon. He finished his career with West Bromwich Albion in February 2008 when he announced his retirement after being released by the club.

I know that Lance Armstrong's testicular cancer had spread to the brain and lungs by the time it was diagnosed and he pulled through and seems to be still doing all right for himself.
Although I never particularly liked Hartson as a person and player hopefully he can achieve a similar result to Lance.

He gave some of that to his missus as well if I recall correctly.

Sad news. Didn't like him as a player, but this isn't something I'd wish on anyone.

I hope he pulls through this.

Really Really gutted for him. He is from people i know that now him a top top bloke!!!

Hope he pulls through

He behaved too often like a top-of-the-range cnut on the field for my liking, but nobody deserves this. Hope he makes it through.

I only know his character based on how he was on the football bitch, and on that he was a full-on cunt.

Good striker on his day, but never had the right mentality, attitude or fitness to perform consistently to his best. One of the old school footballers really.

I'm with Oncy; good luck to the guy, but shit happens.

Hope he pulls through.

Like a lot of people, I thought he was a horrible bastard of a player, but he could well be a reasonable person, and I am pretty sure he has young kids.

I don't like to think of anyone going through something like this at his age

I know it shouldn't, but it always seems weird to me that cancer would spread from the testicles to the brain - I mean, I know for a lot of us blokes they keep in regular contact and all, but it seems an awful long way to travel without deciding to stop off on the way and think "Fuck it, this'll do"

He's a dirty fucking thug and a bully.

Im not going to pretend to give a fuck.

He also has a young family who may have to watch him slowly die. For them at least, I hope he makes a full recovery.

I don't recall Oncy wishing him good luck. These things can be beaten, but to anyone who says 'he's a thug and I don't care', remember, they have families like yours and mine who do care.

I'm sure most of us on here have pissed people off from time to time, and been pissed off with others.

If or when the time comes when you get told you might have an incurable disease, you may think differently. It will hit him hardest that he has a young family.

I wouldn't wish the cancer on anybody.

It's fucking grim

Is the correct answer.

Well said. I'm not sure I could have been so diplomatic.

I hope he makes a full and complete recovery. And then he gets hit in the nuts by a JCB.

'Diplomacy' is my middle name. As you well know...... 😉

Looks even worse now:

Former Wales, Arsenal and Celtic striker John Hartson is in a critical condition after emergency neurosurgery on his brain.

On the weekend 34-year-old Hartson was diagnosed with testicular cancer which had already spread.

On Wednesday, doctors confirmed it was also present in his lungs.

The father-of-three had undergone surgery at Morriston Hospital in Swansea, after being transferred from the city's Singleton Hospital.

A hospital statement read: "He is currently being cared for by the critical care team at Morriston and is receiving round-the-clock care aiming to stabilise his condition.

"He will resume radiotherapy and chemotherapy as soon as possible."

After being diagnosed with cancer on Sunday, Hartson was admitted to Singleton Hospital where further tests were carried out.

Since retiring from a glittering career in football in February 2008, the striker has since worked as a television pundit.

Relatives issued a statement on Wednesday saying that all close family and friends "are continuing to support John in any way we can".

"He is receiving outstanding care from all the medical and surgical staff and we would like to thank everyone at both Singleton and Morriston, as well as the excellent ambulance staff," it went on.

"We have been overwhelmed by the support and goodwill from many thousands of football fans, players, clubs and sporting figures and we have drawn strength from this support."

The family also requested that the star's privacy, and that of his family, is respected as he continues his hospital treatment.

Officials at Arsenal have said the club is "deeply saddened" by news of his cancer.

The former centre forward joined Arsenal as a teenager from Luton in January 1995 and, in two seasons at Highbury, made 62 appearances, scoring 16 goals.

The player left Arsenal for West Ham United in February 1997 and continued his career with the Hammers, Wimbledon, Coventry City, Celtic, West Bromwich Albion and Norwich City.

"Everyone at Arsenal Football Club would like to take this opportunity to wish John, together with his family and friends, all the very best in the challenging times that lie ahead. Our thoughts are with you," the statement added.

During his international career, he scored 14 goals before stepping down in February 2006 to concentrate on his club football.

Hartson made his Wales debut in March 1995 in an away match against Bulgaria, often leading the line as a lone striker, until his last game in November 2005 against Cyprus.

I sincerely hope he fights it. I know he was a thug, and a Celtic player to-boot, but I always thought he played the game honestly, and I never disliked him.
