He's a clever player, which can only be a good thing, and he's got the talent and the (footballing) brain for the quick one-touch lay-offs and that.

I think once the team gels and we see a little more understanding between him and the rest of the attacking elements it'll be very fruitful.

My only slight concern with him is will he score many goals? Having said that, I'm not so sure this issue of "Can he replace Steven Gerrard's goals" is really an issue at all, as I think Stevie will still bang them in from CM
 
Shit thread but I will say that when interviewed he laughed that was his first penalty in about 15 years and he won't take one again

I do think at 1-0 that is a bit poor, he should not have taken it. Team first, remember drogba crying when lampard would not let him take one to get golden boot.

I've never liked players taking a penalty for their first goal anyway. Forlan did it for Salford after about 30 games... it shouldn't count until you've got a proper one!
 
He confirmed in answer to a question that it had been agreed beforehand that he would take them, so if anyone's boobed there it's Roy.

I liked the way Cole refused to take the easy way out offered by the interviewer and blame his miss on the keeper moving early.
 
Yea, Crouchie missed one to open his account and didn't Nando miss one as well before he had scored for us although that may have been in a penalty shootout.

Cole should never have taken the penalty and it is in my opinion bad preperation that there wasn't an asigned penalty taker in the absence of the regular two which are Gerrard and Kuyt.

Sorry Jules, didn't realise that he had been told he could take it. Still a mistake though in my book.
 
Even when Cole was at Chelsea and was a pundit I thought he seemed a decent guy, and I'd think it a bit sad if anyone gave him as much shit, like at the start of the thread, let alone when he plays for Liverpool.
 
He's clearly trying hard to win people over, he set up the goal, so I don't see it as an apt opportunity to label him 'shit'.
 
Stop quiffing, read crumps post, he was pissed and doesn't really think he's shit.

Will make a nice change for a team to get a decent run together. Let's hope it gives the team some consistency

I did think of Fabio when the penalty was given.
Surely someone ielse was a regular penalty taker for their previous clubs?
Poulson, Jovanavic, ?

Carragher apparently takes a mean penalty in training.
 
Cole said in an interview today that he hadn't taken a penalty since he was 13....

He also said that the red card was correct and appologized to the Arsenal player.

So? He was with the England camp spending entire afternoons working on them for a month.. Shame we couldn't score 4 goals to get it to pens though...
