Tonight's match is live on LFCtv for those of you with Sky & cable in the UK (presumably ROI as well), for those of you elsewhere it only appears to be on Al-Jazeera I'm afraid.

Despite it being against a shite team, us having few true stars playing & being totally meaningless, I cant help but get a bit excited. Am I on my own in this one?!

Nope - I cant wait.

Pre-season friendlies are always wank and last season left a very bitter taste as were were dreadful. Its always good to see how the younger players integrate with the senior ones though.

hahaha, this game is being played at the 'Cashpoint-Arena'!

So should've been called the ATM Arena.

*remembers the other meaning to that acronym*

Oh, hang on, maybe not actually...

“If I wanted my first game as Liverpool manager to be a winning one, I would not have chosen to play a team of Al Hilal’s quality with what is basically a Liverpool reserve team. “I have got to be realistic. “I am not going to make any statements that people think I should be making. I will only expect to start winning games when I think the Liverpool team resembles something like it should be.

“The game against Al Hilal is an opportunity for some of those players who have probably never been given a chance before. They might find it hard to get another chance when the top players come back. “But, at the same time, it is a chance for them to try and do something. I will be very interested to see how it unfolds. I will be very happy if we win but if we don’t, I won’t be in a position where I will be losing sleep.â€

On the plus side, Souey's commentary could now (legitimately, in the crazy punning world of pundits) say:

"He's absolutely raped him there, and after that . . ."

No, I don't give a fuck.

I also wonder how useful doing pre season is in Austria, especially as I noticed Spurs and Man U on espn here in their friendlies.

I think that's backwards logic myself. Players & managers HATE going to the Far East & the US pre-season, I remember Fergie especially going mental when they had to do it & conducting an interview about it's detriment.

It's all about cash & expanding the brand, nothing more.

Don't we want cash, and to expand the brand?

I'm looking forward to it, just to see Aqua in being injury free and loads of the talented youngsters that we have.

Ince, LDV, Amoo, Shelvey etc

I'm excited of course. I'm also glad we don't have long haul flights and faraway tours.
I'm looking forward to seeing Shelvey play and of course Aquilani......yous know me!

With that squad of scopers it would do more damage than good
Yea. The squads for friendlies this early are always shit, though ours is particularly so.

I love pre-season. . up until about 5 minutes after kick off when I realise I'm about to endure an hour and a half of absolute shite football.

Yeah, but if it in any way is detrimental to us challenging for fourth by starting the season well, then long term it makes no sense, finishing fourth this season could be valuable in sooo many ways.

I'm interested to see it because no matter how shit the players are we can start to get an idea of how he wants the team to play.

I'm with you brother. Aquilani could be a star player for us given the chance.

I think Roy's comments ahead of the game are spot on. He's being careful to not add any more pressure to a bunch of young lads playing against an experienced side whilst challenging them to prove they have what it takes.

make that 3

Yeah, it could be interesting to see Aqua in his favoured position, I have high hopes, but worry he wont settle playing anywhere but as an AM, so it's how Roy tries to accommodate him & Stevie.

What time is it on?
6 I think.

Liverpool: Gulacsi, Degen, Darby, Ayala, Kelly, Lucas, Aquilani, Riera, Amoo, Dalla Valle, Ngog. Subs: Hansen, Spearing, Irwin, Shelvey, Ince, Eccleston, Palsson.

Can't wait to see Dalla Valle play. I've never seen him in a game >_<

Wonder who the captain is.
Looks like a 4-4-2 too.

"Lucas Leiva skippers the side."
