Is mane in the gameframe?

Yup would love him here. Someone different from all the other forwards we have. As some have mentioned, offers pace and directness which we don't have much.

I guess I'm just worried he's go the same way as Lallana, who had a decent premier league return of 9 before he joined us. There's a lot to like about Mane though, he's fast and strong, something we desperately lack in those positions, so maybe I'm being harsh on him, but I feel this position is our most important signing this summer, I want it to be someone brilliant.

Lallana's best season is worse that Mane's worst. Lallana is decent, but we bought him after his best ever season, and thus overpaid massively. Mane is a few years younger and has already more proven than Lallana. At the right price, he's worth a punt.

Ah, the 'ol "improvement on what we have now" argument that has served us so well over the years.

There is no shortage of players who can improve on the goal return of or attackers.

This is a key position and we need to buy a genuinely top class player.

If Mane is that player, fine, but if not - and judging by comments here nobody thinks he is - we'll still end up short if he's our main signing in attack.

Everyone wanted a new AM player who could play wide or more centrally, is very quick, and scores goals.

Why the negativity about this link?

Bored of buying Southampton players for gazillions and then Southampton finishing above us?

It doesn't really make sense though. We have to buy players from somewhere, and just because we've been stung in the past shouldn't mean that we assume everyone we buy from Southampton won't be great.

Yeh but is he 'that' good, considering what we are probably gonna pay Southampton if we go for him. Considering the bargains that were Lallana and Lovren.

Well yeah, that's true. But it seems we usually end up overpaying at Southampton whilst they're busy identifying the next 8m player than can triple in value.

That is annoying, admittedly. We've also set ourselves an unfortunate precedent, because if we were willing to pay £25m for Lallana, they'll probably set Mane's price at £35m

I've just had an email conversation with a work colleague (based in Southampton and supports them obvs) and I told him about the Mane Rumours.

He's not arsed if he goes, if they get 25 Million for him then they will be made up. He said the only two players they dont want to lose, are Wanyama and Van Dijk.

I don't want him simply because of the price. He's got 3 years left on his contact and he will command a fee his talent will struggle to justify. He will only be available for over £30M.

We should have signed both those players when they left Celtic

If we're spending 25-30 mill then I'd rather do it on Yarmolenko (will probably be cheaper) or Brandt.

I don't want him.

Just google how he engineered his move from Salzburg to Southampton.

Classless cunt.

This. If we end up buying Mane that means we have not learned our lesson at all. He is a decent player for which we will end up overpaying by 15-20 million.

"Mane’s last league goal came in the 86th minute at Liverpool on October 25. Since then, the Senegalese ace has gone a staggering 1,178 minutes without a goal – almost 20 hours.

http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/14...bid_to_end_lengthy_goal_drought/?ref=mr&lp=32"

He broke his goal drought that day by scoring 2 goals in March. Guess which team Southampton played on that day? So in his best season so far, he did not score from October to March in the league. By the way between October and March it is not like he was just not scoring in the PL. He was not scoring in any competition. He actually scored only 1 goal in all competition between October and March. That was in the Capital league cup in December. Guess who was the opposition when he scored in December?

So the only team he scored against in 7 months was us. http://www.soccerbase.com/players/player.sd?player_id=67510

He is incredibly streaky. Also he has played upfront for Southampton too, not just on the wings. Did he score his goals when he was a winger or when he played upfront?

If we end up buying him, most likely we will not use him the same way he was used at Southampton. He will go on long scoring droughts. He will end up scoring 6-9 goals polarizing and generating endless debates on message boards.

His supporters "Not his fault we paid 30 million...He is getting used to Klopp's tactics...It takes time to adjust to LFC..The weight of the shirt.. His pressing is critical to our good performance"

Detractors "He is shit..Headless chicken..runs around a lot"

If we continue populating our team with Southampton players, no surprise when we finish around their league position.

They'll value him at 35-40 mill.
Even if they say 25 mill we can do better getting our targets from outside the PL.

If we really DO have to pilfer Southampton's squad again, and pay them £25m for a player, I'd prefer it to be Mane than Shane fucking Long.
I am certainly not in the business of advocating the signing of Shane Long but you use statistics from last season to make a case for signing Mane yet Long has almost identical, if not slightly better, statistics.
I don't think that the roles they were expected to play were usually that different either.
For the record I wouldn't actually want us to sign either and I am a bit curious to know what you see in Mane.
