Injuries

Yeah, I feared it had gone twang when he first went down and thought we wouldn't see him til August - but it turns out it only went boing.

I thought the fucker had snapped when he went down and we would not see him for the rest of the season.

I hope this is not the start of a problem for the lad. All to often once this happens you seem to be prone to it.

I can see how it happened.

Kelly has this rather good tactic of bombing down the wing, just slowing down a tad 10 yards from the line so the defender slows a little to, (in case he goes round the back of the defender), then puts in a spurt over the last five yards to give him a yard to cross in, which he was about to do yesterday when the hammy pinged, or boinged a la Krumpmiester

regards

Ever since the youth team, kelly does seem to get injured a lot 🙁

Yeah, wasn't he out for an entire season when he was 17 or 18?

Maybe moving him into central defence would help a bit as he wouldn't have to use his pace as often?

Kelly said yesterday that he had been told it could take up to a month, but were still waiting for a confirmation from the scan. He didn't think it was to bad and is a quick healer.

Back in a month probably.

Mirror and Guardian are saying 5 weeks. And will miss Utd, double header against Braga and Sunderland.

Hopefully those injuries will disappear as he gets older and his body adapts to the quickness of the premier league.

Liverpool defender Martin Kelly has been ruled out for a month with a torn hamstring sustained at the weekend.

The 20-year-old has been an ever-present on the right side of defence in the Barclays Premier League since Kenny Dalglish took over as manager in early January.

However, the academy graduate limped off in Sunday's 3-1 defeat at West Ham and will be sidelined for four weeks.

The only consolation for Kelly is that March is a relatively quiet month for the Reds and he is likely to miss Sunday's visit of Manchester United, both legs of Europa League last-16 tie against Portugal's Braga and the trip to Sunderland on March 20

How is that a quiet month?

Lol. Perhaps they're looking at it from the domestic scene.

"Liverpool should have Raul Meireles, Daniel Agger and Fábio Aurelio fit to face Manchester United and have not ruled out Andy Carroll.

Meireles was substituted at West Ham last Sunday, after picking up a knee injury, but coach Steve Clarke believes he will be fit to play on Sunday.

Clarke also believes that both Agger and Aurelio, who were both injured in the Europa League tie against Sparta Prague, should be available after returning to full training this week.

Clarke said: "We're hopeful. He [Meireles] had a little problem with his knee and as a precaution at the start of the second half we thought it was better to take him off. That gives him a better chance of being ready for the next game.

"He'll get three or four days on the easier list and then hopefully towards the end of the week we'll be able to put him back in the preparations for the weekend.

"We're almost sure Fábio Aurélio will join us on Thursday and we're hopeful Daniel will join us on Thursday or Friday at the latest."

Meanwhile record signing Carroll, who hasn't played since the end of December, is said to be closing in on fitness following his thigh injury and may yet make an appearance against United."

Reds sweat as Gerrard “may need surgeryâ€

Liverpool face and anxious wait today for news from the club’s medical team about the extent of Steven Gerrard‘s groin injury.

The Telegraph reports the 30-year-old Reds captain looks set to see a specialist over the injury that has aggrevated him since Liverpool’s 1-0 victory at Chelsea in February.

With the rest of the squad in Portugal for this evening’s Europa League tie against Braga, Gerrard is back on Merseyside undergoing scans of his groin problem.

If the decision is made to operate, Gerrard could miss the rest of the month’s action – which includes Liverpool’s two Europa League games against Braga, a Premier League encounter with Sunderland and two England internationals.

Dalglish told press in his pre-Braga press conference yesterday, “He’s not suffered any aggravation. He’s got a problem with his groin.

“He’s not travelled and we’ll have him looked at. We should have more news onFriday. There’s nothing new.â€

If they're confident that the surgery will work as planned (and I never trust these "doctors prognosis) then he should get it done now. Who gives a rats about two internationals - we need him fit for the sprint to the end of the season as well as (hopefully) a Europa League final.

Liverpool have been handed a boost with injury news ahead of this Thursday’s Europa League tie against Braga at Anfield.

Daniel Agger and Jonjo Shelvey have both resumed light training after injury. Shelvey was originally thought to be out for 12 weeks, whilst Agger has been struggling for the last month or so.

Reds boss Kenny Dalglish told the club’s official website, “Daniel Agger is improving. He is back training. Jonjo is back training as well.

“Daniel is closer than Jonjo.â€

Meanwhile Dalglish also said that Martin Kelly and Fabio Aurelio are on track from recovering from injury.

He added, “Fabio and Martin are doing a little bit but haven’t joined in with too much exercise yet,†said Dalglish. “They are all progressing.€

Hope Kelly is back soon too. He's been great this season.

What a lovely bonus to get a quality player up through the ranks.

Steven Gerrard and Martin Kelly to give Liverpool boost

Liverpool expect injured trio Steven Gerrard, Martin Kelly and Jonjo Shelvey to be back in training next week.

Captain Gerrard was set to be sidelined for a month but could feature at West Brom in the Premier League on 2 April.

Reds first-team coach Steve Clarke said: "They are all improving. Fingers crossed, we will have Martin Kelly and Steven Gerrard back training next week.

"We hope the same for Jonjo Shelvey, who has been out for a long time. Fabio Aurelio is also making good progress."

Gerrard suffered the injury in Liverpool's 1-0 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on 6 February.

Hamstring injuries have sidelined both Kelly and Aurelio while Shelvey underwent a knee operation in February.

The news of the imminent return of several of his squad will come as a timely boost to Reds manager Kenny Dalglish ahead of crucial games against Manchester City at Anfield on 11 April and a trip to Arsenal on 17 April.

Clarke said the returning players will give the rest of the squad a lift going into a key month in their season.

I will be a difficult month in April with a lot of tough games, but if we can have our full squad ready to go then we'll look forward to the challenge," Clarke added.

The former Chelsea and West Ham assistant was impressed with the manner in which the Merseysiders bounced back from last Thursday's Europa League exit with a 2-0 Premier League win at Sunderland on Sunday that allowed them to further cement sixth place.

"Everybody at the football club was disappointed when we went out of Europe at such an early stage, but I think they bounced back at the Stadium of Light which is a difficult place to go and get a result," Clarke commented.

"The players have proven they can bounce back from disappointments and as everybody in football knows, that's very important."

I'd like to see Shelvey get a few starts.
[/quote] I suspect you would have seen it by now only for his injury.
I would too by the way.

I think he'll start a few before the end of the season. Our at least lengthy cameos
