Earlier in the year without Aquilani it was quite obvious to most of us and to anyone analyzing the results that we should have been playing a 4-2-3-1 with Gerrard and Masch in the middle, Torres upfront and the trio of kuyt, benayoun and another.

Now with Riera, Torres, Benayoun out for the next month at least how would lineup so that we can fight for a top 4 spot?

I'd go for a 4-3-3

Reina

GJ Carra Agger Aurelio

Masch
Aqua Gerrard

with the front 3 being chosen from Kuyt, N'gog(certain starter for me), Pacheco, Eccleston, and Babel

rwf being between Babel, Kuyt and Eccleston
cf being N'gog or maybe Kuyt, maybe maybe maybe if we needed to Eccleston.
lwf being Babel, Eccleston, Pacheco, or N'gog

I think we need to back to go to a 4-5-1 as follows

Reina

GJ Carra Agger Aurelio

Masch Aqua

Kuyt Gerrard (free role) WHOEVER

Ngog

Give Gerrard the role he excels in - He's our best player and we need to give him the best 'platform' to carry the team while Torres is gone.

Hopefully Torres is back for the Everton game, but against City I'd play Kuyt upfront with Babel out right and Aurelio on the left.

I got to watch the first half yesterday before taking my boys for their "soccer" training (we live in US). I was pleasantly surprised by Lucas' performance. He looked like a very good footballer to me. I know he's regarded as a weak link and is held in low esteem, but I was encouraged by what I saw. I think he'll hold off Aqua for a while longer.

I would opt for your system LeTallecWiz.
Playing five across the middle should help us defensively.
We are leaking goals all over the shop.
We have only conceeded one goal less than Portsmouth, who are rock bottom.
That has to be sorted out.

If that actually happens, we might as well all pack it in right now. Aquillaini cost £20 million, and I fully expect 100000% more than Lucas has offered us. Sir Purple needs to be in that side asap. as we are looking towards a mid table finish as things stand.

I know it was a cameo, but I'm really quite worried about how lightweight he looks, it's going to be bad enough trying to get up to speed with playing again, never mind a different league. Add that's coming into a struggling side, in a demanding position, etc.

He needs to play, but he needs to be eased in somehow, midfield hasn't been brilliant at protecting the backfour, and that's with two players who's forte it is to sit or press. Our centre looks soft as shite at present.

Agreed on Aqua. His 5 minutes were worrying as I could not see anything good except for one long pass which was not quite accurate

I know, it's worrying that he didn't at least score 1 goal in that time.

He or us?

Dunno about him, but I definitely think we've every right to be disappointed with the lack of goals from him in his 5 minute spell on Monday night. Birmingham were there for the taking, and he did cost 20M. We've every right to expect much much more.

He has only excelled in that role with Alonso to provide the ball and Torres to occupy the defenders.

His best role is CM or a wide right free role and as that aint going to happen with Kuyt around I'd stick in him in the middle with a 442.

Fucking hell.
[/quote]

Well Fowler did manage an offside overhead kick that hit the back of the net with 5 mins against Brum on his league debut for us when he came back. Why not Aquaman.

He's obviously rubbish from those 5 minutes.

Ha ha our fans are bonkers.

No, but there was that overhead kick he tried against Arsenal. But what the hell, for 20 million, that should have gone in :🙂

he was fantastic against the gooners in his cameo there - so he was poor here.

Happens. He'll get better when he plays 6 minutes

Do people really expect a previously injured player that is not match fit to step into the breach and become our saviour because he cost us 20 million?

Once he gets more game time, he'll improve. Expecting some type of miracle deliverance from him is fantasy bordering on ridiculous. it smacks of desperation and we are probably that desperate for our results to improve.

I´m not sure if N´Gog is quite ready to play as lone striker but with all the injuries it´s hard to find the players for a 4-4-2.

For how long is Aurelio out this time?

I´ll go for this:

-----------------Reina-----------------
Johnson-Carragher-Agger-Insua
-------------Mascherano-------------
Kuyt---Gerrard---Aquilani---Babel
---------------N´Gog-----------------

Our left side is, obviously, a problem.

Last chance for the dutch runner/rapper.
