I didn't know whether this story is too credible for RH's thread or too speculative for its own, so I'm taking a punt on the former. Anyway, I found it interesting. Says they want around £10m, which seems like a potentially good deal to me for someone who was rated so highly not so long ago.

Is he the sort of holding player we need? Clearly not good enough for Real, but ok for us right now? I've never really seen him play.

He's got bargain of the summer stamped all over him. He's very talented and represents the sort of signing the club needs to be making.

There's two ways to look at that - either he may not be as good as advertised or he doesn't have many miles on the clock.

I think Madrid are generally good at spotting players and not sticking there wouldn't put me off a player.

For 10m, he's worth a go. He may well turn out to be two and half times less the player Lallana is but it's worth a go

Ancellotti preferred playing Ramos in the midfield over Illarramendi in the CL semi finals? Was he injured?

He was considered the heir to Xabi Alonso when he had the breakthrough season at Sociedad. Definitely worth a shot.

"110 first team appearances in 5 years? Hmmmm." I think that is just in La Liga.

You can't really judge signing a player from Real Madrid on whether they play or not, they're a bit of an anomaly. They've let plenty of world class players go just because their face didn't fit with the fans or god know's what. That said, I've never seen Illarramendi play.

He was fantastic for Sociedad and Spain U-21s.
Real signed him for 34 mill £, biggest Spanish transfer fee ever at the time.

He hasnt settled at all in Madrid and obviously made the wrong career move. He, like Bale, have parts of the home crowd booing him when he does something wrong. You can see that he isnt enjoying himself therr.

Saving him from Real for 10 mill is potentially an amazing signing. I'd go for it in a heartbeat.
