if Stevie is awesome in the world cup...

A little, perhaps. After the kind of season everyone at Liverpool has endured it must be a relief to go away with England, even as skipper, and if it's true that he was disenchanted with Rafa he doesn't have that to worry about any more. I want him to have a stormer of a tournament so he's raring to go for the new season.

I would be a little anyway. He seemed half arsed at times this season. Some of it can be put down to injury though.

Stevie is going to have an awsome WC and I for one hope so. Houllier said the he excels with xtra responsibilty and will perform even better after a poor season.

A little bit, yeah. There is an argument for saying he's not always given 100% this season but who is to say how much of that was down to injury, shenanigansbehind the scenes or whatever. Given that it's Gerrard, I think we can give him the benefit of the doubt and / or cut him some slack.

I'd love for him to have a fantastic World Cup. I'd like to see one of our greatest ever players finish his career with more than a CL medal and a few cup successes.

I wish him all the best. But if he is awesome in the WC, and then shite at the start of next season, then I will have something to say.

To his wife 😉

I'm not gonna be angry.

He's given EVERYTHING in his soul & heart on the pitch for this club for year after year after year, & been surrounded by shite 99% of the time, & had his dreams dashed time & again. He cant realistically expect to win the league with us yet just last summer pledged his lifetime loyalty.

Keeping something in the locker 7 not risking burning out before his last World cup is understandable looked at that way.

I want him to have a great World Cup. If England fuck up I don't want to have the gutter press and the thicker fans all slagging him off.

For one, because he is our player and it wouldn't be nice and secondly it might affect his performance for us!

it will be a none issue as 'fab' will play heskey and push gerrard to left midfield where he wont be able to influence the game.

It would only fuel the ever increasing rumors that he didn't want to play for Rafa's Liverpool.

You did it so I didn't have to.

New manager, new people, new set up, so no, I wouldn't hold it against him if he shined at the WC

But then I don't expect him to.

I dont expect him to, Gerrard has routinely underperformed for England over the years, especially if Capello uses him from the left.

On the silver lining side a top world cup showing would increase his transfer value greatly should whispers of his departure later in the summer prove to be accurate

City have changed their story, they ran a story around about lunch time saying the above, and then changed it to a poll that's been ran by Marca today regards how many Real fans would like Gerrard to play for them next season.

Yep!

Worst thing was, someone in work passed on the info, so I spent the next two hours cursing Gerrard, and football in general, put the radio on and heard the news regarding this fucking poll!

You can't believe anything about Marca. They are shameless lying cunts.
I'll give you an example of the shit they pull.
They notoriously hate and slated Higuain all last year and were very pro Benzema when he came. When benzema failed and higuain came back in and started scoring loads they ran a poll on their website for fans to vote who should be leading the line with the options being Higuain, Benzema, Raul, Ronaldo and a youth who's name escapes me. Higuain unsuprisingly came top but with something like 40% of the vote, so rather than running the details of the poll In their shitrag the next day (because it evidenced something they didn't want) they simply ran with the headline 'when polled over 60% of Madrid fans said they didn't want higuain leading the line' or words to that effect.
They're dicks.

*goes to arrange burning of Marca flag*

ITS THE ONLY WAY OF GETTING THROUGH TO THESE PEOPLE !!

Haha!

Yeah Oncey is right. Marca just do what they're told basically.

It took precisely 4 minutes for me to realise I could never be pissed off with stevie doing well for England.
I was so proud of him yesterday. Liverpools captain, captain of the whole country. And how he wore it with pride. Flying into challenges, geeing up his team mates, organising, consoling and a great goal.
His words after the game were superb and mature too.
Yesterday reminded me of gelsenkerchen when Liverpool beat Germany 1-5, Gerrard, Heskey and Johnson were our best players last night.
Anyhow. Gerrard was epic. Regardless of wether you care about England, he does, and how could you not want our captain and arguably best player ever to fulfill his dream.
Go on Stevie lad, keep er lit!

Despite the fact that I'd still sooner have seen Carra as LFC captain, Stevie's visibly matured in the last season or two. He's far more ready for the England captaincy now than he would have been when Terry originally got the nod. Things happen for a reason.
