...he must retire from international football. Tough choice to make before the Euro's next summer and I hope he musters the strength to publicly announce it before this seasons Euro 2012 qualifiers. Anyone agree?

Gerrard?

I'd probably agree, not as f England will ever win jack shit, unfortunately.

But he loves all that.

I just have a gut feeling that the choice will be made for him somehow. If Capello is somewhat smart he'll leave Gerrard out of the team until the build up.

The sunday morning Stevie and Carra were on goals on sunday he pretty much gave an answer on this. It was something along the lines of he'd play until he was deemed not good enough for england anymore. Tbh I reckon it depends on the player, some prolong their careers by quitting international football early, others can go until their near 40, just because they have the drive to do it. Gerrard is going to eventually have to re-create himself as a player for us when he loses that burst (i hope he never loses it!!!) but thats going to happen anyway and I dont believe a few more internationals are going to make a difference given the strength and conditioning programs modern day footballers are subjected to. Sure, cut out all the friendlies, that should be an option, but in the past players who have wanted to do both have succeeded. Carra retired because he wasnt getting enough chances to play and went back as an emergency.....had he been a regular starter it could've been a different story for him with internationals! Obviously others will disagree but I do believe its up to the player and his drive to keep going.

The 'golden generation' should have been sacked off after the last WC but Capello was too weak. There's no way Gerrard will go voluntarily, he enjoys meeting up with JT, Lamps & Ash too much.

I'd say he will retire after the Euro.

...which could be in a couple of months.

To be fair to stevie on form he is still Englands best midfielder and one of the few class players in the side.

As much as i hate England i would say they will qualify to Euro as they are leading the group and only Serbia looks like a team who can rival them.
