Ok, so I'm a bit inebriated (granted, I only drank 10% of what Pesam drinks before he starts talking funny but that's a lot for me):

- I don't like Magic. Yes, he attacks well but every time someone attacks him, I fear for the worst. I want him at RW until Kuyt comes back. I think he'll do well. 4th place is still achievable, but it don't matter if Martin Kelly is there or not. Give him the games, he'll do better than Magic defensively.

- Meirless is a classy footballer. Makes himself available, makes forward runs, simple passes when he needs to. I only see one issue, his position = Gerrard's position (i.e. roaming around Torres). I'm not sure he's capable of playing a more 'constrained position' but I really like this player.

- Cole is still a few games off being at his peak but I really like this kid. He wasn't great today, but he'll do fine.

- I was happy with Torres the way he played the 2nd half. He wanted to win the game, or come out with a point.

- Well done to our captain for two solid set pieces. Pity that couldn't give him at least a point.

- Poulsen plays simple, smart football. Solid passes, albeit mostly Lucas passes. My only complaint is that he seems slower than Lucas. He did well today overall though.

- I like the developing chemistry between Meirless, Torres, Gerrard & Cole.

- Maxi is short of game fitness. Everyone will slam him because well, he was poor at best. He needs a team to move around him more to be successful, and that's not how our team will be this year. I think he needs to be a 'bench option'.

That's it. After seeing this though, I think we can possibly finish 4th. Let's just keep our 'big boys' healthy and hopefully that will result in a nice push starting against the Sunderland beachballers.

well said.. except i think maxi is shit and reminds me of a RW version of lucas. Disappears in matches, doesnt get the ball or get stuck in, is slow as shit, half arsed. but the rest i think spot on 😉

Yes we will, and if we do, you will buy me a pint in Liverpool. deal?

No we won't. What makes you think we will? We're clearly no better than last year. We've won one in 5 and haven't really looked competitive in any of them. Sure it's early days for Roy etc... but I'm just not feeling any positive change around the team, or club for that matter, at the moment. If we finish 4th mate though, I'll buy you a bellyful of pints. And if we don't it's your round ! I know I'm being a negative cunt but I just can't see or feel anything positive around the club at all. It's depressing and turning me into a right mardy arse.

We have a starting 11 that can beat anyone anywhere. That I firmly believe. Grandpa just needs to grow a set

Reina
Johnson Greek agger aurelio
Gerrard Raul
Kuyt Cole babel
Torres

The only weak links there are down our left but even then we should be beating most teams home and away

Sunny, you're not the only one.

Let's hope that we're wrong. I don't mind large slices of humble pie if it means CL footy next season.

Spurs & City have better squads than us

Admire your positivity Avram, but I guess we'll see how things shape up over the next 10 games or so. I know we have had a tough schedule and also some new players blending in; it's the way that we have been playing that it's a concern. At least under Rafa we had some semblance of defensive steel, now we're a worry defensively as well. Offensively, we're not seeing much pass and move football. It's like we don't know what to do when we're in possession and we don't move the ball fast enough for any noteworthy attack.

they might have better squad depth.. but they will never have TORRES, GERRARD, REINA!!

I'm pretty sure we have a starting XI to rival the other top teams.

They have better squads than us but not necessarily the starting XI.

A very good starting 11 with Torres getting into match shape ...

I can't be negative man, I was like that last year and it upset me.

How you can use todays game as a platform to attack Johnson is beyond me, only Gerrard put in a better shift than him today, Im sick of people rubbishing him as a defender, he would walk into Utds Citys or Arsenals team, how many of our players could you say that about? He was our best defender today and probably our best attacking option out wide too so give him some credit, meanwhile Carra was awful and nobody bats an eyelid

No we have the players. This is better than Rafa's 2004 squad. We don't have the manager. He's like a deer in highlights in the big league. Even he seems to think he shouldn't have got the job. Why wait another five games. Get a different manager in, and let's end this before we all become casualties.

Salford took a well deserved win, but it was not welldeserved. OShea should have walked. The, as us, were piss poor, and they get an hand by Webb were he should make an easy but brave call.

I don't know if Torres would have reached the ball.

There was enough doubt for it to be a yellow.

I agree with nearly all of this. The way we stroked the ball around and kept possession was , at times, superb, all we needed was one of our creative wide players (Cole or Maxi) to be song to have troubled their defence a lot more than we did. Notice the improvement when N'Gog came on and no-one would call him a winger.

Our midfield is starting to look really good again. Poulson did a sound job as DM. Whereas I saw Meireles & Gerrard actually rotating around each other, when one went forward the other dropped back, so you could see one of them up near United's goal one minute and then a couple later he would be sitting back whilst the other went forward. I don't know if is was deliberate but it looked good.

Maxi wasn't just short of fitness - he was shite.

Johnson had a great game .. he's fine at RB although he could be even better at RM.

After this game, against supposed challengers for the title, I'd say we definitely have a big shout at 4th.

I wasnt particularly impressed with Johnson to be honest. When he's running with the ball in and around their box, he needs to be far more positive. Also, his crossing is just shit.

Lovely stuff.

Well, I was told today in the pub, 'Fuck off you scouser' ... I guess that's a compliment as I don't sound that scouse! 😉

Just feel a little low, but I'm not going to say too much about it since it's done.

What's depressing is that whilst perhaps we'd have played better with Babel and Lucas instead of Maxi and whomever (Kuyt was a miss for this kind of game) Roy pretty much played his best team and we were comfortably beaten.

As for playing for a point,I'd rather he didnt.

But this was Old Trafford and we'd just clawed back a 2 goal deficit.

I'd be surprised if he didnt try to get the point.

The mistake was playing for the point at Brum, not Old Trafford.

BUt if it makes everyone feel better to slag Hodgson and puff their chest out and say he'll be sacked, fine.

It's easier to rant about that than to acknowledge that we're a broken shadow of the club we used to be and that the best managers wouldnt touch us with a 10 foot pole.
