Gudjohnsen missed that chance in 2005. I just watched it there and I was nervous and extremely relieved at the same time. What a night.

The single most terrifying moment of my sports life.
Time stopped as the ball dropped to him - It was like a Matrix-esque scene from a bad movie... I seemed to come out of my own body and hover around the table I was watching it from. I can still remember the expression on the faces of those with me... The Arsenal friend who was on our side that day. The few waitresses who's shifts had ended, but wanted to sit with us 'cos we were "crazy soccer fans and awesome fun".
It was one of those slow-motion "Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!" moments.
He couldn't miss. We were out. My knees actually buckled and I hit the floor, dispondent. Misery flooded my body. There were tears already in my eyes.
I didn't actually see him miss it, until the replay, 'cos the table and the legs of my friends blocked my view from that angle - I wondered why Dave was cheering a chelsea winner.
"AAAhhhhhhaaaahhhhahaaahhhaaaa! He missed! He fackin' missed!"
Replay after replay confirmed what Dave was yelling, but I couldn't fathom that it hadn't gone in. With each new replay, I expected to see it fly in. But it never did.
He put it in the only place possible to result in his not scoring... An inch to the right, and he scores directly. An inch to the left and it flies in off Drogba. I'd put the chances of his putting it wide from there without it deflecting off somebody on the way at about 1%. And he f#$!in' did it. If he got that chance 99 more times, it would go into the net about 95 of them.
The wave of pure joy that surged through my body has only been equalled by daughter related stuff since. I get goosebumps just typing about it... I don't think I felt anymore joy in Istanbul than I did the night we beat them wankers. The same joy, sure, but not more... And I didn't scream or yell or jump around or celebrate at all - I still couldn't wrap my head around him not scoring. It was impossible to miss from there...
And justice was done. Wasn't Gudjohnson the prick who dived so Xabi would miss the 2nd leg? Karma's a bitch, huh?
To this day, when we're warming up before matches, right at the end, I'll run up to the goal, stand about 5 feet out, scream "Gudjohnson - He MUST score!" and blaze it wide, normally for a throw in. It's like a pre-match ritual.
And even though I know what happens, I still break out in a brief cold sweat when I watch that particular incident again... I still expect that ball to finish up in the net.
One of the worst and most glorious misses of all time.
