.. the last time a player gave such an interview about another teams manager. Is it not time to put the bitterness aside Danny?

Danny Murphy feels Liverpool have gone backwards under Rafa Benitez since he left the club in 2004.

The experienced midfielder, who is now on the books of Fulham, believes the time has come for sweeping changes to be made at Anfield if they are to set out on the road to recovery.

The 32-year-old playmaker is of the opinion that in order for progress to be made, Benitez needs to be shown the door and a new manager brought in to help steady the ship.

With pressure mounting on the Spaniard with each passing game, it may only be a matter of time before Murphy's beliefs are shared by the Liverpool board.

A disastrous 2009/10 has underlined just how far away the club are from being regular contenders for major trophies, and much of the blame for their ongoing failings has been laid at Benitez's door.

"If you ask me has the time for Liverpool come to look for a new manager then I have to say 'yes'," Murphy told the News of the World.

"That is not me slating the guy because he forced me out when I didn't want to leave the club in the first place. Neither am I saying he is a bad manager. But over the last year or so the club have not moved forwards, in fact they are going backwards.
Mistakes

"I will always be a fan. I keep in touch with a lot of people close to the club and many think the time has come for a new manager. I agree providing that process doesn't cripple the club financially in terms of pay-offs."

He added: "Liverpool's problems at the moment are not just about some of the bad buys they have made for a lot of money over the last few years, but also the mistakes they've made in letting players go.

"I am not thinking of an obvious one like (Xabi) Alonso, but why on earth did Benitez sell players like Peter Crouch and Craig Bellamy when they are so reliant on Fernando Torres?

"It goes without saying the team have ended up relying too much on Torres, Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher.

"Over the past two years Benitez has made too many bad decisions. History says he has won the Champions League and the FA Cup for Liverpool, although even then people can argue about the merit of those wins.

"What I do know is that after being there for this length of time the debate should no longer be about Liverpool qualifying for the Champions League or where they finish in the league but actually winning the title. And that's not going to happen again this season. So something has to change.

"People go on about how well Liverpool did last season by finishing runners up? So what? We finished second under Gerard Houllier with 80 odd points. Our team also won three big trophies in one season. So things haven't really got much better. If anything they have got worse."

He's been chilling for too long on 6CM it seems.

Whilst I've never been a fan of Murphy, most everything he says is correct.

And Keni, Tevez is far worse.

A bit harsh him knocking our trophy wins. In fact I think it's a bit of a liberty.

Bitterness or not, he certainly has some valid points.

Especially on the Crouch and Bellamy piece.
[/quote]

Crouch didn't want to play 2nd fiddle to Torres, wound his contract down and refused to sign another one. Conveniently forgotten in that piece.

Is right. There are a few lines in there which sound so bitter, it makes the rest of the article close to unreadable.

Oh yeah, there was Tevez, but that was largely just insane rants about his dealings with Fergie.

Danny Murphy hasn't been a Liverpool player for years now and shouldn't be talking like this. I knew he was bitter and obviously has no time for Rafa whatsoever, but this is unacceptable.

Having Crouch on the bench last year would have probably made some difference against those teams who came to park the bus. It's shitty of murphy to lay into the club/rafa so publicly, but the crouch scenario still bugs me.

Theres lots of brainless things Rafa's done, but Crouchleaving isnt one of them.

He didnt want to be 2nd banana.

I was always a big fan of Murphy. He was a good player for us and was disappointed that Benitez let him go when he did.
However, he still seems very bitter. Using words like 'forcing me out' after this long don't help much!

He does make some valid points though, but the one about Crouch and Bellamy might be a little harsh.

I see it quite differently, and not in a 'brainless' way.

the effectiveness of a 6'7" option for a team often facing a congested penalty areas has it's obvious benefits. we were lucky to get 11mill, but i'd rather have had crouch sign a new contract the year before and kept him for that season.

anyway, it's an old argument, reignited by danny murphy, but crouch as a sub v's Keane half season would probably have made the difference.

To the point where he thinks most everything he says is correct.

I wonder if Benitez has quit/walked/been sacked. Lot of rumours doing the rounds on the net, and his post match press conference was bizzare to say the least.

Danny boy is a bitter lad. He's been so for a long time, but he makes some valid points though.

The press conference was perfectly ordinary, save for one line that probably had more to do with bad English than anything else.

Maybe, but still. How much more can the fans and the owners put up with? I was gobsmacked when I read that Benitez has a worse run than Megson did. 6 wins in 20 games? Thats ridiculous.

Is true - Crouch leaving wasn't one of them. The lad wanted first team games and wasn't staying without them; that we got 11m for him was good business.

Bellamy, on the other hand, is a completely different story!!!

Yes, I'd have preferred to have kept Bellers.

I see the interview was conducted by the hacks' favourite ex-convict, Rob 'Bites Yer Face' Shepherd - the sole reason Woolnough and Co go all coy and reticent when someone says Joey Barton doesn't deserve any more chances.

Old Danny used to praise Curbishley like he now does Hodgson. Then he scarpered to Spurs and Curbishley denounced him as a shallow young man dazzled by the night club life, so Curbishley suddenly became an honorary foreign manager in Spud's eyes.

Utter fucking bollocks.

Curbishley was miffed that Murphy wanted to leave and go to a bigger club in Spurs. He made that snide little comment because of that.

But don't let the simple fact that Murphy has never been papped drunk in the 'bright lights' of London (where is Charlton anyway?), - despite the celebrity wife - stop you from repeating your made-up Murphy horseshit

Not a raw nerve at all. Wasn't arsed when Murphy left; too weak, static and slow.

However, I do take umbrage when you just make shit up to denigerate his opinion now.

There's an easy way to fix this; don't make shit up

Fucking Curbishley is a mendacious, bitter cunt, and can go and fuck himself

Murphy left to go to a bigger and better club. End of story

Repeating reports you don't like - fine. Making them up - wrong. And the point, as you well know, was about Murphy's fickle rating of managers, not Curbishley's bitterness. Or did you make something up?

What's up between you two?

Anyway, the interesting bit of the interview was this: "I keep in touch with a lot of people close to the club and many think the time has come for a new manager."

He's talking about Gerrard and Carra, isn't he?

Nothing he says is valid apparently, just like everyone else that is critical of Benitez.

It could only be Carra and Gerrard. Noone else is still there. Whether they said that or not is another matter.

Oh and take it from me the only bright lights around Charlton are police ones or the occasional car fire.

It'll be a blessed relief to me when Benitez is gone. I just detest the claptrap on here. (Sorry to spoil your lazy argument, but it is lazy.)
