to see Rodgers take 2 big risks and more so have them pay off.

Starting Sterling after he had played Thursday night and drafting in Coates instead of Carra showed real balls.

Against the champions it could easily have backfired but it didn't.

Neither goal could be blamed on Coates and Strerling was a constant threat throughout.

Jonjo also had his best game for us and showed none of the laziness people have labelled him with.

Really positive to see Rodgers putting such faith in the young players and giving them a chance on the biggest stage.

Come on Ryan, you know you wouldn't want a post of Dreamys swallowed up in the post match analysis

And I agree Pat, it was really refreshing to see a manager take such a risk

Last season kenny stuck with is players (bar carroll), which is fair, but few of them were producing anything. I'm so happy that shelvey has moved ahead of Henderson, i'm so happy sterling is getting hsi chance and he's taking it, i'm thrilled Coates got a chance in a massive game.

And i'm thrilled we spent 15m this year on a GOOD midfielder

I'm full on smitten with rodgers at the minute

It's been excellent. He's not quite been as decisive and interesting in his substitutions as Benitez was in his first few months (but as Benitez soon stopped being decisive and interesting in that sense, it's hardly portentous), but in every other sense he's started boldly and brightly.

Providing he continues with this way then i will have no qualms. IF he starts to revert back to playing henderson and downing without them doing anything, then i'll be miffed

The only downside I have so far is his subs during the wba game.

However, as I said immediately after the match, I doubt playing with ten men was something they'd planned for & as such he gets the benefit of the doubt.

That aside I've understood pretty much every decision he's made, even if they wouldn't have been my choice (most of them would be), which is a step up from every manager since the early days of houllier.

He said that they planned for two formations city may play, Inc 3-5-2, so possibly a big test of his communication skills in game & his tactical flexibility may be if we play a team that are set up a way we didn't expect. It's the one area I'm wary of, it's all well & good being 100% behind your system but I'd like to see evidence he can adapt that when necessary.

Yeah, I think it's worth noting that he adapted the sub of Shelvey too. I made the point in another thread but, had Silva been playing between the lines, I think we might have seen a different decision. Though to be fair, he looked to exploit City by putting on an attack minded Shelvey, so that in itself is progress and goes someway to overcoming this overly defensive, inferiority complex we adopt sometimes, worrying too much about the opposition rather than concentrating on hurting them.

Me too. I don't think anyone would have complained if they saw Carra and Downing start or even Spearing. So to see this bold approach is superb. Exciting times.
