15 goals striker available on bosman 😛
CHELSEA are eyeing new England recruit Jay Bothroyd as they face up to a striker crisis.
Blues boss Carlo Ancelotti is a big fan of the Cardiff hitman, who he knows from the time Bothroyd spent playing in Italy for Perugia.
The 28-year-old earned his international call-up for tomorrow’s friendly with France on the back of his 15 goals this season, including eight in his last six matches.
Liverpool, Fulham, Aston Villa, Everton and former club Arsenal have also been tracking the striker, who is available on a free transfer at the end of the season.
But with Sunday’s 3-0 home defeat by Sunderland exposing Chelsea’s lack of depth up front, owner Roman Abramovich could sanction a move for Bothroyd – who would be available to play in the Champions League – in January.
Star forward Didier Drogba, who has been suffering from malaria for over a month and turns 33 in March, looked a shadow of his former self again on Sunday.
And Nicolas Anelka, 30, has scored just three league goals since August.
Cardiff will be reluctant to let Bothroyd go, with his goals firing the Bluebirds to top spot in the Championship.
