What precuations do you guys take to try and prevent break-ins?
A spate of recent burglaries in my street has prompted me to check I’m doing all I can to prevent a break-in. This is what I’ve got:
House alarm
Deadlocks on front and backdoors
Window locks
Good locks on sheds
UV marker pen to mark all your valuable with postcode/house number.
Indoor lights set on timers when we’re out
No house keys/car keys or small valuables visible from downstairs windows
A copper I spoke to told me that CCTV isn’t much use for trying to convict anyone as footage is rarely good enough for identification purposes. That said, I’ve just fitted a dummy CCTV camera to the back of my house in the hope it might deter the feckers from breaking in. He also advised fitting a garden light that comes on automatically at dusk and stays on all night, which I’m planning to sort soon.
The mrs is proper paranoid about all this now, especially as we’re off on holiday tomorrow.
