ROY HODGSON has urged his unwanted Anfield stars to put their careers ahead of cash and accept their Kop career is over.
Fringe players such as Milan Jovanovic and Ryan Babel are available when the transfer window opens.
But Hodgson fears the massive salaries of those surplus to requirements will make them tough to shift in January.
And he has questioned whether players - and their agents - are putting finance ahead of their love for the game.
Hodgson said: "It's a problem throughout football. For us to even loan players out we have to virtually pay the players' wages. We need to prepare players more for the fact they have to change their demands when they leave.
"We pay money for players to help us get into the top four.
"But when they can't even make the top 18 players, they must accept that the money they're on won't be there somewhere else.
"If they want the money ahead of playing, they may have to kiss their careers goodbye because they'll be sitting on their backside.
"It's money versus playing. What means more? Are you so disinterested in playing you will take the club's money until the very last day, even when it's made perfectly clear there is no place for you?
"It's a question I feel should be brought up more often. I'm not certain the general public are so aware of this fact.
"They expect you to just get players in and out. You can spend money having to pay players to leave which could be put to better use.
"It even goes beyond the first team. Reserve and youth players get contracts which seem normal for Liverpool but when the day comes for them to leave, even clubs in the Championship can't pay."
