Lies, bullshit and spin again. Define 'big; for starters. We've spent fuck all net for years now so anything about a couple of million is 'big' in his book - even for a Texan.

Does the 'big' spend depend on Rafa getting us a champions league spot?
Nothing more than an empty promise to take the heat off his son's stupidity

Let's face it - the trust has completely gone between the fan and the owners. Work starting on the stadium would be start in building that back up. Tom and George need to start putting money where their mouths are.

huh ?

I'd say wait til the summer before condemning them. They've made a noose for themselves with this one.
What now they've made a noose? but not before now??

Empty promises is exactly what they are all about.

That sums it up perfectly.

I think people may be reading a bit too much into his comments anyway. All he says is that "The summer window will be big". That could just as easily signify the importance of signing wisely, as the size of the investment itself.

It means absolutely fuck all is what it means... summer window will be big indeed....the cunt even has the balls to talk about the new stadium. The summer window will be big only in that it lasts a few months.

IMO The mans a robbing chancer and his son, useless prick that he is, at least did us all a favour by confirming his families attitude perfectly.

Fuck em.

Why is everyone assuming the line "summer will be big" means we will be spending big?

He doesn't specifically say we will spend big, and for me that line has numerous connotations.

I think people are thinking that because at the start of the peice he is going on about how there is no value in the Jan markets.

I guess the other side of this is that, if there's an element of truth (big 'if') in that the money is being saved until the Summer, then there's a severe element of mistrust going on from the owners to Benitez, and this may well be a signal that they're saving the money for the Summer on the possibility that we may have a new manager who will obviously need significant funds to spend.
That's certainly possible, but might it not also be possible that H and G have regretted the effect of not funding a proper transfer kitty last summer and want to reverse it, just not in January when prices are sometimes even more ludicrous than they are in the summer? I don't suppose for a minute that they'd put money in out of the goodness of their hearts, but I do think sheer self-interest (i.e.safeguarding what is, for both of them, a major investment) might make them think again.

noone is going to believe a word those two shits say, besides in Jan you can do things like Arse buying Arshavin for £15m when they were 10 points off the CL places

Hahhahahahah!

This reminds me of the blind optimism you showed over the whole Tevez to City affair.

You were still holding out hope when that fucking "Welcome To Manchester" poster went up.

A poster which was obviously written and waved by people with inside knowledge of the club's transfer dealings. Check. And Vlad's reminded you in the Kenwyne Jones thread of the signals Tevez was putting out. Check. That's before even mentioning other posters in this thread who, like me, are suspending judgment on this latest announcement till the summer. Check.

Poor the Braindead.

"The summer window will be big " means most clubs spend more in summer than winter window where prices are more inflated .He doesn't specifically guarantee liverpool f.c. will spend BIG in summer .if we spend 1.5 million this winter then 5 million in summer would be big relatively in comparison to winter disregarding sale revenues which the owners are quite happy to hold on to .

What the fuck are you quacking on about now Judge Jules?

You never seem to be right about anything, but you're harking back smugly to another thing you weren't right about.

Bizarre

Least of all someone who has demonstrated consistently a determination to promote hyperbole and conjecture as fact - whatever the cost.

Like Lucas and Benitez in varying degrees the owners are just another example of an easy target for those fans who would prefer to have a figure to which all blame can be directed rather than truly understand the club in its various spheres of existence.

I don't for one second suppose that I understand all aspects of the club or that I have a greater understanding than anyone else. I certainly and absolutely do not agree with many of the decisions that have been made on the field and several that have been made off the field. However, sitting back and reciting the venomous rhetoric of others who don't have the good of the club at heart is symptomatic of the worst kind of fan IMHO.

Apart from the stadium quote - which Ossi makes a good point about - H&G have been guilty of little other than demonstrating improved business acumen. The shirt sponsor is a massive improvement on what has gone before though I may have got the timing wrong as I didn't think we were supposed to see the money on that until about April or May. As I said in an earlier post the most significant issue in my mind was their tardiness in seeking or securing a secondary, minority investor when the market was stronger. Otherwise the facts are we've spent a bucket load in the transfer market since they took over and certainly more than the mancs, brum, Villa etc and more than we've ever done in the past; this at the same time as a massive, worldwide credit crunch.

Nobody - to my knowledge - is saying they're happy with the situation. I certainly wish it was massively improved but just spewing vitriolic fury at the easiest targets because it seems fashionable serves no purpose. Bloody hell, sometimes we can give a pretty good imitation of a Newcastle supporters union.

I could tolerate virtually everything that has happened from a financial perspective if they hadn't fallen out with each, fallen out with Benitez (then hashed it out), called supporters names, etc etc. This summer was a disaster but Benitez still brought in two potential stars. Maybe he should have been given the budget for one more. Maybe he should have chosen to spend that money differently.

Either way, if G&H could actually treat the supporters with dignity, honesty, and respect, the financial situation would start to look a lot rosier, even if it fundamentally did not change.

January isn't really the time to spend big, as bargins are few and far between.

Unfortunately, the transfer market in the summer of a world cup year also tends to be pretty horrendous, as prices tend to go up and players get bought on the strength of a couple of appearances at the World Cup.

To be honest, Hicks Jnr aside, I haven't been that disappointed in their treatment of fans. Hicks in particular has been notable in consistently responding to fans emails; he's under no requirement to do so and with so called fans trying to keep him out of his own club he could be forgiven for not feeling particularly disposed to enter into any dialogue with them at all.

Indeed. Gillett made a good start by getting out of his seat and chatting with fans at half time in early games following their takeover, which I really liked at the time. Due to safety concerns, clearly this is not an option now.

Hoping this is true:

Those two deals have brought in funds totalling £6.5 million, and Ryan Babel's name could soon be added to the list of departures now Benitez has been assured that he can have the potential £10 million fee to strengthen his squad during this transfer window.

Benitez had previously been told to wait until the summer before spending on new additions.

Was at the end of a Maxi article, we could probably get Chamakh with that money or just someone who has pace and plays like he cares.
