HICKS JNR'S AMAZING RANT AT LIVERPOOL FAN

Not open for further replies.
Tom Hicks Jr was under mounting pressure to resign from the Liverpool board last night.

Hicks sent an offensive e-mail to a supporter and triggered a row that has led to a fans’ group accusing the club of “a conspiracy of silenceâ€.

Hicks — the son of Tom Hicks, the Liverpool co-owner — sparked outrage at the weekend when he responded to an e-mail from Stephen Horner, a supporter, with consecutive abusive replies. The first simply said “idiotâ€, but the second said: “Blow me, f**kface. Go to hell, I’m sick of you.â€

He has since apologised, but the Texan’s contrition has failed to quell growing calls for him to quit the club.

The Spirit of Shankly (SOS), a fans’ campaign group committed to the removal of Hicks Sr and George Gillett Jr, released a statement demanding the immediate resignation of Hicks Jr.

It was also heavily critical of the Liverpool hierarchy for remaining silent on the matter. On several occasions yesterday The Times sought a reaction from Liverpool, but to no avail. Freud Communications, the London-based PR firm employed by the Hicks family, also failed to offer any comment on the matter.

“It is a great surprise and an even greater disappointment that Liverpool Football Club have thus far failed to make any comment on what we feel is a very serious matter,†James McKenna, a spokesman for SOS, said.

“Is this what the club has come to, that a board member can speak in such derogatory terms to a supporter but can go without censure or any public criticism? The conspiracy of silence which has followed this unsavoury incident is totally unbecoming of a club which has always prided itself on its relationship with the fans.

“Are we to presume that the Liverpool hierarchy condones the comments made by Tom Hicks Jr or is it simply a case that the deeply flawed regime of Hicks and Gillett has left the entire club in a state of paralysis?

“Surely the very least the Liverpool supporters deserve is an open and honest explanation from the club, an indication on their feelings about the objectionable behaviour of such a senior member of the board and a commitment that such an incident will not happen again.â€

Horner had sought comments from Hicks about a weekend article in a local newspaper, following up revelations in The Times last Tuesday about Rafael Benítez, the Liverpool manager, not being allowed to reinvest the proceeds from the planned sales of four players during the transfer window.

Hicks’s subsequent admission at least ended any debate about whether he had actually sent the offensive e-mail, but it has done little to negate the growing sense of outrage on Merseyside. Hicks told Horner: “I apologise for losing my temper and using bad language with you. It was a kneejerk reaction.â€

Horner said: “The damage has been done by Hicks’s initial two e-mail messages that he sent me on Saturday morning and the apology received later in the day is hollow and probably a PR exercise.

“Hicks Jr should resign with immediate effect and it is time that Gillett and Hicks sold up and handed the reins over to people who understand the Liverpool way. They are not welcome at Anfield and should name their price and begin negotiations with more suitable investors who can take this great club forward.â€

McKenna said: “For one of the directors of the club, and the son of one of the owners, to respond to a fanwith genuine concerns in such a manner is unacceptable.â€

It doesn't seem that long since the professional and dignified leadership of John Smith. It's difficult to believe what utter scum are running our club today.

HAHA...

Why oh why...

They should blame it on some half Witt monkey boy who replies to emails for them.. say that he has now been fired after his improper and unprofessional conduct. Apologise for the mistake and state that answering millions of emails and undertaking the massive amount of work required to ensure the best interests of the club would be impossible so they hire others to reply to emails on behalf of the organisation.

I've met him, several times.

He's a spolit, loud-mouth, drunken, arrogant dickhead. LOVES being the big man in the bar, getting louder with each passing drink...

Funny thing is, the most recent time we watch a game in the same place, we ended up sitting quite close together, and, early on in the game, he started simply repeating anything I yelled out... If I yelled "Knock it wide!" or "C'mon Stevie!" or "Watch the back post!", within seconds, he'd be yelling exactly what I'd just said.

Wanker.

Sounds like Goerge Bush´s son George Bush.....

In fairness, I'd be sick of bellends emailing me about their 'concerns' day and night as well.

As Fark said however, they should have some corporate monkey replying for them.

I agree with Keni.
Tom Junior is clearly not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but at least he gave an honest reply

I miss Moores and the old Liverpool.

We achieved as much, and it was done with dignity.

so you disagree with 90 percent of this forum who said: Any change is a good change???

Everyone moaned about Moores at the time and were calling for him to sell up.
Did he have any other options other than the Yanks or someone else under a similar kind of arrangement?
If not what else could he have done?

Probably not, but it doesn't change what I said.

We were fed lies from day 1, and I had more faith in Moores to get it right.

No-one can really say with any degree of certainty - at least on here - what offers they had or didn't over the years.

What I do know is that they spent millions on searching for investment for years, we ended up in a position where the cost of a stadium equated to about half of the new owners capital and had a bit of a dodgy track record in general. Was that really good enough? Do you get to the point after all that effort where you just think "I'll sell it to anyone that fronts the cash"?

I know it's often said that no-one complained at the time and I guess they didn't really. Most Liverpool fans just chose to be optimistic and hope for the best and at the end of the day, why not? We're football fans, not accountants and being a football fan is largely rooted in having hope. That said, I do remember a lot of people googling and questioning the amount of money they had behind them and digging up some old not-so-flattering articles. Did people largely put those concerns to one side and choose to be optimistic? Sure. But as football fans, we have the right to do that. The guys in power don't.

He has resigned according to SSN.

Resigned from what?

I have no clue what his job was supposed to be anyway.

Apart from sending stupid e-mails and copying Whaddapie's football chat in pubs.

Well they shouldn't be in such a role then. Fans who pay money to see the team, and even those who just support the club, reserve the right to voice concerns. When the club relies heavily on revenue generated by the fans, the blood of the club, it should expect some input from them. And they should at least have the decency to treat such enquiries with a dignified response.

There's no justification for the reply whatsoever.

Well it didn't take much to get Jr. to lose his rag, did it?

Perhaps one of lads can email Sr. and call his wife a fat old whore to see if we can achieve a similar result.

Tom Hicks Jr resigns as Liverpool director
Director moves on after weekend controversy...

By Zack Wilson

Liverpool have today announced that Tom Hicks Jr has left his position as a director of both the football club and its parent company.

A statement on the club's official website reads:

"Liverpool Football Club today announce that Thomas Hicks Jr has resigned as a director of both the club and its parent company Kop Holdings.

"Three new directors have been elected to the boards of both companies.

"These are Philip Nash, LFC Chief Financial Officer; Ian Ayre, LFC Commercial Director; and Casey Coffman, Executive Vice President of Hicks Holdings."

The news follows stories that emerged at the weekend regarding an angry and allegedly abusive email sent to a supporter by Hicks Jr, for which he later apologised.

Pressure had mounted for Hicks Jr to resign after he responded to an email from concerned fan Stephen Horner by reportedly writing: "Blow me, ****face. Go to hell. I’m sick of you."

The Spirit of Shankly supporters' group, an organisation committed to ridding the Anfield club of its American owners, issued a statement over the weekend calling for Hicks Jr to resign, as well as expressing wider concerns about the state of the club.

Casey Coffman:

FIRST JOB: Pharmacy clerk at a drug store.

WHY SPORTS: I am a lawyer by training and went to law school thinking I would be a sports agent. I joined the Coca-Cola Co. out of law school and scratched an itch to live abroad (which I did, for about five years). After that, I was ready to pursue a job in the sports business.

WHY YOU LIKE IT: I love the games! Sports are great drama, you have to play the games to determine a winner. I also love that we provide so much entertainment to so many different types of people. Sometimes it’s tough because our business is so public.

SUCCESS STRATEGIES: I have worked hard, tried to always find solutions to issues and hired great people.

DEFINING CAREER MOMENT: Getting out of the day to day practice of law and taking on responsibilities across the entire business.

PROUD MOMENT: Being named COO of Hicks Sports Group. It formalized the role that I was effectively doing before the title and allowed me to work with really great management throughout our entire organization.

ULTIMATE CAREER GOAL: I would like to be CEO of a global sports, media or entertainment company.

MENTORS: My parents. Mother taught me that there is no mess too big to clean up. Dad instilled in me the same work ethic he had…work hard and smart.

BEST ADVICE: Don’t expect to be treated differently because you are a woman, and then you won’t !

GIVING BACK: I am a Big Sister to my little brother David in Big Brothers Big Sisters. We have been matched almost seven years. Mentoring children is a proven effective way to change their lives for the better.

AFTER HOURS: Travel, play golf.

FAVORITE BOOK: Business: “The Tipping Point,†Pleasure: “Confederacy of Duncesâ€

FAVORITE WEB SITES: Wall Street Journal and Sports Business Daily.

HISTORICAL ROLE-MODEL: Condoleezza Rice. I would love to be part of the President’s most trusted confidants and she served in that role at a very interesting and defining time in our country and its place in the world.
