Cardiff Blues have confirmed they have sacked Gavin Henson following his drunken behaviour on a flight back from Glasgow on Saturday morning.
The Blues announced that Henson, 30, had been suspended on Saturday evening for his antics in the wake of their 31-3 RaboDirect PRO12 defeat to Glasgow.
Henson apologised for his behaviour, saying he was "truly embarrassed" but he has been dismissed with immediate effect following a meeting of the Blues management this morning.
Blues chief executive Richard Holland said in a club statement: "The Cardiff Blues management have discussed the matter at length but have acted swiftly since the incident occurred on Saturday morning.
"Gavin admitted himself that his behaviour was totally unacceptable and the immediate termination of his contract sends out a clear message that behaviour like that will not be tolerated at the Blues.
"We have a duty to our supporters and sponsors to protect the good name of Cardiff Blues and those associated with our brand.
"Gavin Henson is obviously a talented rugby player and it's unfortunate that his career at the Blues has ended this way.
"However, we would like to thank him for his service and wish him the best of luck with his future career."

What's the deal with Henson? I never really seen him play, he became more famous for his relationship with Charlotte Church than his rugby.

Was he any good?

Yes. Powerful centre who could attack, defend and kick goals. Unfortunately he has the brains of a rocking-horse.

He was one of the best centres in the world for about 2-3 years, but then he lost his way. You wouldn't think it but apparently he's ultra shy and finds it hard to mix with others. When he was at the Ospreys the coaches used to make him stop in and say hello to different people each day, just as a way to encourage him to open up a bit.

"If" he wants to carry on i'm sure some top flight club will take a punt on him. I've seen him play for the Blues quite a bit, but tbh it looks like his heart isn't in it anymore. it's a real shame, such a wasted talent.

Henson wasted his career.

So has Cipriani ... now playing Union for Melbourne Rebels and getting done for knicking a vodka bottle at a club when the bartender wasn't looking ... but the cameras caught him red handed lol

Henson was a highlight player, he's still living off one good tackle on a 17 year old Matt Tait.

One of the most overrated players to ever set foot on a rugby pitch, he's like rugby's Beckham except without the workrate and will to win.

World young player of the year
2 Grand Slams
British and Irish Lion

That beats a hell of a lot of players achievements at international level.

Wasted talent i'd agree, but he's still got 1 more Grand Slams to his name than the great BOD managed..........

True.

Yet for a player who is only living off one tackle his international achievements stand up quite well, even against the best irish internationals ever.
