Few people are Ross, you're generalising as though most of us expect as much. We don't.

i can go back and dig up exact posts if you want Mark

What I'm saying is simple:

1. We will spend some more money.

2. The money spent will be the money the club earns and can afford to budget for transfers.

3. None of the money spent will come from FSG.

Essentially nothing drastic has changed since last year, we're closer to a position where we can spend heavily but until we rid ourselves of more deadwood and qualify for the CL dont expect miracles.
Have we made a profit of 40m plus this year? From the number of players in different positions we've been enquiring about, that's probably going to be the kind of money we'll be spending in total this summer.
Where's that money coming from? Another loan?

Are you referring to me, or just in general? I don't think I've said I profess to know that we've got X amount to spend or anything significant for that matter. People might have got caught up in various stories about different players that we've been linked, even those you'd guess would be out of our reach, but I don't remember too many people saying "we're going to spend shitloads".

Not that it proves fuck all anyway, we don't know what's going on, like I said. We'll spend but I don't expect the Aguero's of the world and I don't think I ever did.
Off-the-field income presumably, i.e.sponsorship and merchandise sales.
Yeah, but I seriously doubt the books will show 40m profit in 2010-2011.
If it isn't FSG's money being brought in, I just don't understand how Liverpool could possibly generate such an amount without getting a loan.

Is it do we think that with the FFP rules we are in the same position as the other big clubs, after this year we have to cut our cloth according to our size, unless you are City and probably Chelsea, so we are having a splurge now.

regards

Looks like Henry is indeed going to dig deep this summer.
All the www.itk's also think we've got 1-2 more players still to come at some expense so it certainly appears as though the owners are coughing up the dollar for Kenny

Certainly does. Lot's of premature smugness in this thread too.

Yeah Kenny can have no complaints (not that he would anyway). It does seem that all the "itk's" are predicting more to come, which is good to hear.

Is there still work to be done, though?

Damien Comolli
It's difficult to say. I'm sure there will be players going out because some players would like to play more and have more minutes. We will probably have a few loans as well, players who we would like them to develop, into the Championship or the leagues abroad. In terms of players coming in, it's difficult to say. I think we are going to sit down, look at the situation, see where we are, see who might leave and then we will reassess later. But we have done most of what we wanted to do.

Doesn't sound like there will be to many more transfers in let alone a marquee one without players leaving

As Comolli says it depends on whose going out. And we can let the likes of Newcastle and Brum sweat on their player valuations.

Read on another site that we'll most likely sign a left back by next weekend. We've identified 3 players. Im guessing Enrique, Cissokho and Baines.

Most likely we'll sign Enrique.

Yeah, I'm guessing that's the most likely too. Whether he's actually any better than what we've already got in that position is another matter altogether.

But as Sunny has pointed out, KD said we were going back to doing business behind closed doors. So Comolli is hardly going to say in an official article "yeah we're after a couple of marquee signings and will spend another £Xm" is he?

Lets see where we are at the end of the window and then assess the quality, strength, depth and just for Ross the economic viability of the squad.

We will definitely get a CB & a LB in before the close of the window. If we get shut of Ngog I expect a striker too.

We simply have a wage bill that is too high, so we will need to get some people off the books. 6 in, 2 out, when the wage bill was too high to start with. It's not difficult to work out we need to reduce the numbers before overcommitting anymore.

this is easier said that done. and even if we get brad jones off the books we turn around and sign doni. were we to have got rid of jovanovic only a fucking miracle saved us from signing marveux. we fucking managed to get shot of damien plessis, and then in a matter of weeks in comes christian poulsen.

the wage bill and the club is going nowhere until the fucking morons and scouts who come up with these signings get fired

Wonder when we're gonna start culling the squad?
I guess we're not getting decent enough offers.

Not what I had in mind but I'd take that offer for some of our fringe players.

The thing it's up to the club to get it out there that these players are available for nothing. You can't just sit back and expect people to bid for them. Who the fuck has heard of degen, or el zhar? I would even make up some michael owen style portfolio's, and owen hargreaves style training videos. We're not being proactive enough when it comes to getting rid of these cunts

We've spent 100M pounds since Xmas, albeit with 50M coming back from Torres. Nevertheless, that's 100M pounds of new players at the club. If I was owner, I'd want to see how they go before handing over another stash. I don't think that's unreasonable and I also think its more than enough money to get us back on track.
If there's more money to come, fair enough. If there's not, fair enough again.

Degen is being followed by Swiss and German clubs. El Zhar by french clubs. The foreign players might not be big names here but they are known in other leagues. It's down to who can afford their wage.

To be fair we might have spent alot but I don't think the sum fully represent the strength the team has gained. Sure the squad is better than last seasons squad not counting Mascherano but there's still room for improvement.
I haven't forgotten about Cahill. Dann seems to be the Scouse version. You know who I'd prefer. Bottom line is we need another CB.
We also need a another left fullback.
Mata seems to be a luxury signing if Aquilani actually stays, which I doubt he will (No assigned number, no publicity stunts, no smile, no Liverpool).
To raise some cash I'd sell:
* Skrtel or Agger
* Meireles
* Maxi
* Kyrgiakos
* Spearing
* Plus the usual suspects (Cole, Jovanovic etc)

Loan:
* Wilson
* Shelvey

I've no inside knowledge to base this on, but I have a hunch that the miracle which stopped us signing Marveaux is called Kenny Dalglish.

There are alot of players that need to go and some that are saleable but why would we sell Skrtel or Agger? We've got one other centre back in Carragher and I've got no faith in anyone else because we haven't seen them play there for a prolonged period (yes, everyone who keeps saying Kelly will play there longterm, you haven't seen him play there in the Premiership!). I wouldn't look to be selling Ming and Maxi either, talk about one step forwards and two steps back, we need strength in depth, all you're doing is raising funds to buy players for the same role, we'd still need another because of the players going out the door. You're the one who keeps saying Aquilani is going so it's not like we can rely on him being here as an alternative to Ming.
