On your bike: Gerrard told Torres to leave Liverpool
Fernando Torres has revealed that Steven Gerrard told him to leave Liverpool prior to his £50million switch to Chelsea.
The Spaniard spent four years at Anfield, forming a formidable understanding with the former England skipper, and says Gerrard is the best player he has played alongside during his career.
Gerrard famously almost joined the Blues himself after lifting the Champions League title in 2005 with Liverpool, and Torres has revealed the Kop legend told him to make the move to Stamford Bridge.
"There's one player that influenced me above anyone else and that's Gerrard. He changed my career, my ambition, wanting to win, he changed everything.
"Even when I was leaving Liverpool he told me 'go, think about yourself. Do what's best for you - you've nothing to prove'," he toldthe Sun.

"He changed the way I saw things, telling me that I could get much higher than what I had always thought. I'll never find a team-mate like him."
Torres, who is currently back on loan at Atletico Madrid where he begun his career, recently played at Anfield again in a charity game organised by Gerrard and Jamie Carragher.
He partnered Luis Suarez in the game, giving Reds fans a glimpse of what could have been if he had opted against the move to Stamford Bridge.
Despite leaving under a cloud, the Liverpool fans sang his song during the game.
