Arbeloa, Dossena, and Alonso deterred us from the fact that we're not actually buying anyone?

So far we've got Glenjo, and that's yer lot.

It's fair to say if we didn't have the full-backs leaving, and the 5`68-97-5857=134134689348 page Alonso thread, then this forum would be up in arms over THE LACK OF SINGINGS RAFA MAD FACE.

Is Glenjo it? Are you happy with that? Or are we waiting til the Alonso stuff's cleared up, and giving ourselves a week before the season starts to sort out replacements?

Any other transfer window, and most of you would be up in arms with a right-back as our sole arrival.

see th torres out for 2 months thread to see how pissed off some of us should we not sign a decent striker - our forwards, as a totaility, are midtable in depth and strengh - we NEED to act now

I think I mentioned it last night that I was a bit concerned by the fact that we've left ourselves a couple of weeks to fill a number of slots.

The reason why nobody is up in arms is because there's no easy scapegoat this year.

I'd be surprised if we have much more to spend other than what we raise from selling Alonso, Dossena and Arbeloa so I'd imagine we're simply waiting til we see who is going before spending.

So much for all our transfer work getting done early this summer ....

I would hope that a deal with a replacement is in place and that the Xabi money can go directly to fund it.
That is the hope anyway.

Call it foolish/dumb/stupid but I will hold out hope that Xabi will stay until I see a quote from him or Rafa saying he is going.
Until now we haven't had that.

In true Liverpool fashion, we will dream and hypothesize to the max....but in reality, we'll get shat.

Well, maybe some unknown Togan cunt, who'll play third fiddler to N'gog.

I think you're pushing the 'Parry wasn't that bad' bandwagon a bit too much Ross. He's been gone what, 2 months?

Let's judge the decision to bin the cunt off in a few years time.

The thing is it's August soon and I don't think we've even been properly linked with anyone unconnected with the Alonso transfer. Boredom has well and truly set in and there are only so many "WHERE ARE OUR FUCKING SIGNINGS!?!?" posts that you can make.

Glen Johnson (and maybe an Alonso replacement) is not good enough, but fuck it... sick of caring.

That's the thing - there haven't been any. Compare this summer to any January window for example.

Not that I'm complaining of course.

Dunno. I've made a few and I know Oncey has as well.

I guess you're right though. It's been a fucking boring summer and the forum has been dead.

Isn't anyone here a bit optimistic? Seems to me the Alonso transfer has been on the cards for ages and we need the money for something else. Perhaps Real knew this and therefore are dragging it out to piss us off and sell for less (wankers as per usual).

Is it not strange how Villa and Silva haven't been snapped up yet? First it was Real then Barca and they have both overlooked him....... Why is this? Doesn't look like Real will be after either. Hopefully Barca don't need either also....

Why did Rafa mention a transfer record? Where did this dissappear to? Or were we waiting for the Alonso cash or bank situation to sort itself?

My bet is that Villa and Silva will be wearing spangly new red shirts very soon

It's good to dream.

It isn't good to dream this much, it will end in tears.
The more likely transfer to happen between us and Spain AFTER Alonso leaves is Javier in the same direction. His brother has been spouting off in the spanish press now, he is a mercenary.

The chief reason why there hasn't been any angry face SIGN SOMEONE posts, is because no one bar Citeh are buying either. It's been a summer paralyzed by inflationary spending and general economic uncertainty.

Am I happy with our summer if the big change is Glen Johnson, with everyone of significance bar Arbeloa staying? No. The fact that everyone else has mainly stood still thus far for me is an opportunity. It's only going to get more difficult to win the league in future years as Citeh continue to spend, and we continue to fail to address attacking weaknesses and lack of depth.

The idea that we can safely say we've improved on last season, due to getting Johnson in, makes no sense to me. The assumption that everything else will remain the same, in terms individual levels of performance, simply doesn't always pan out. It's always best to keep moving forward.

Well put.

It's kind of like that thing when Rafa said above getting goals from all over the pitch. It made perfect sense, except everyone but us seemed to act.

Im not arsed me.
Like i said yesterday.
Reina
Insua
Agger
Carragher
Johnson

Mascherano
Alonso

Riera
Gerrard
Kuyt

Torres

bench-cavalieri, Aurelio, Benayoun, Skrtel, Babel, Voronin, Lucas, Degen.

Is plenty good enough to win the league. Im not sure Johnson = a four point shift, but Johnson in coupled with Ronaldo out easily equates to 4 points.
I dont believe we needed anyone, i still dont. We're good enough, and if our philosophy is to be one top tier player and some youths per window im all for it, its what ive wanted for many years.
Id love another signing of course its always great to get all cited and shit but do we need it? If our first 11 are fit, theyre certain players. Stability ftw.

Don't watch any Italian football so I know nought about them. Do you really think either of them can replace Alonso?

Fuckinell Keni - your signature had me thinking my computer was knackered

As for transfers, I'd still like to see us sign an attacking midfielder and a striker. However, what kind of quality are we going to get with a 'backup' striker. Maybe Rafa feels he wont get anyone better than Voronin in.

In respect of an attacking midfielder - the only real space theyre going to fill is LW, as Dirk has made himself pretty much undroppable. Will Babel fill the void?? If not, whats the point in keeping him?

We simply cannot win the league if we do not bring in more players this summer.

Thats the bottom line for me.

Torres/Gerrard will not play 38 league games this year and looking at our attacking options right now we pretty much would need them too.

Yossi should play in the team with Gerrard and Torres. He's easily the most creative attacking player after Gerrard and Torres and mostly like to create a goal if they are off form.

Nobody is throwing a hissy fit because it is clear that the one player Rafa knew he was losing he replaced early on (GlenJo for Arby) and we've no money to spend on anybody else unless we sell Xabi, which most right minded people don't want to do. And if we do, we want to hold on for as much cash as possible, which unfortunately, requires some brinksmanship.

his best position is in the 'hole', where Gerrard is playing now and is often inconsistent from the left. I don't think he should start every game, but he definitely should be the main man behind Torres if Gerrard gets injured.
