Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain suffered the ultimate injury heartbreak back in April, as he tore knee ligaments that would rule him out of both the Champions League final and the World Cup - both of which he was nailed on to feature in.

It was the latest of many injuries that have stunted the midfielder's development, which came at the worst possible time, after he had claimed his place on the right of Liverpool's midfield.

After a long and difficult rehabilitation period, Oxlade-Chamberlain has returned to running on grass for the first time since he sustained the injury.

To mark the achievement, he has posted a photo to Instagram of him running on the grass accompanied by two coaches, with his arms outstretched in celebration.

"That feeling when you're back out on the grass for the first time in eight months", he captioned the post.

Liverpool are coping in his absence, as they top the league at Christmas. But his return will be a welcome boost for the side who have lacked his direct running through midfield this season.

I'm so made up for him. Top bloke, great player - the full package.

I can't wait for him to feature again.

Realistically, what does this mean for his recovery schedule? We still talking 3+ months??

Three months is the conservative estimate. It'll just be a case of breaking up the process into blocks of time, pausing to give him all kinds of tests and assessing how he feels at each point, then hopefully easing him into the odd under 23 game. As I mentioned a few days ago, David Maddock was very upbeat about his progress and seemed to think he could be ready for the run-in, but who he's talked to I don't know.
