I think tonight's been the final straw for me. We beat one of the worst sides to ever play in the Champions League 1-0, almost losing our lead in the last minute. I'm starting to think Rafa has lost the dressing room too. Season's effectively over and it's not even December.

I know we haven't got much money and it will cost a lot to pay Rafa off, but surely not qualifying for the champs league next season is worth more than that. We all saw how Hiddink turned Chelsea around last season.

People will say we've had loads of injuries, true, but after 3 games when we'd lost 2 already, we pretty much had a full squad to choose from.

He's one of the best managers around and is available. I think it could be worth the gamble!

Not sure it's a done deal yet, and TBH it's hard to see how that would work with Ancelotti now firmly established. If we have a vacancy it would still be worth trying to get Guus.

I can't see Ancelotti accepting Hiddink as a director of football. Hiddink would be great if Rafa leaves/sacked, but I can't see him joining us.

More than anything tonight I was left bemused as to why Aquilani was brought on in the 90th minute.

Ok Rafa has said he is not fit enough to start a match... so surely by being on the bench he has around 30 minutes in him?

What's the point in bringing him on in the 90th minute? What could he possibly do in that short time? If anything, he could be on the recieving end of a bad challenge.

YEh, this would have been the perfect game to bring him on, he would have had loads of time on the ball. Could have easily played for 30 minutes tonight.

Absolutely agree (although it should have probably been posted on another thread)

Guus is too old and not good enough.

Shut up you bloody fanboy.

We´re lacking confidence...and a creative midfielder (Aquilani). I haven´t lost faith yet. Yes Benitez made a mistake believing in Lucas/Mascherano and yes he should have bought a new striker. Football is strange and our season with all injuries isn´t normal. We played fantastic football most parts of last season and I think we can do it again.

You forgot to preface your post with "This is NOT a kneejerk..."

Nobody's gonna take you seriously now.

He's nearing retirement age ffs + his last job didn't go to well did it?

Oh yes, because it's fair to judge a manager on a half season with a team he didn't assemble. :🙂 :🙂 :🙂

Also he's 4 years younger than Ferguson, so Rafa please stop talking absolute shite.

He failed to take a good Russia team to the WC and he's one of the oldest managers about.

Both are fair points, so you can kiss my arse Fallon.

I don't care about the Russia job, he overachieved with them at the Euros when they had a couple of better players available and now because they've not got out of a fairly difficult group everybody is in shock? Give over!

If Hiddink is not good enough ... then no one else should be considered.

He is the best 'available' manager at this point in time.

As for his failure to get Russia to the World Cup ... this is a Russia that is not yet the finished article... the national team, the domestic competition - it's all still growing.

A disappoint it is for Russia ... BUT, I wouldn't even compare it to England's Euro 2008 failure.

Ok then so lets forget his age and him failing in his last job for a minute, whats he won in the last 10 years?

In his last club job (because that's what we care about (unless you are desperately trying to win an argument :🙂 )) he won 3 titles and almost got them to a CL final. Also again with the age, if we get the 4 years out of him to take him to how old Ferguson CURRENTLY is, then I would be happy. Go on you tool, what else have you got?

Edit - I forgot to mention he won them less than 8 years ago!!!

It's anything but a kneejerk reaction this. I've been considering putting this post up for a while now, and once Russia were knocked out I almost put it up last week but wanted to see how we played in the coming games. I don't hate Rafa, I just think he's taken this team and club as far as he can. If he manages to stay and turn it around, nobody will be happier than me and you can say I told you so. But no, this has been something I've been thinking about for a while. Tonight was the straw that broke the camels back.

The post not the poster please Fallon.

These are all fair points :

1. He's too old
2. He's won the dutch league and 1 FA cup in 10 years

He built a decent team with PSV, getting them to the champs league semi in 2005, almost making it to the final. A team that has got worse and worse since he left. He turned Chelsea's season around straight away from the minute he took over. Would have got them to the final of the champs league only for some dodgy (yet enjoyable) refereeing, the list goes on...

After the night, weeks and months we've had when any poster comes out with the crap you have they will get the same! He did well with his last club and he has been in international jobs since so point 2 isn't fair (it's bullshit!) and neither is point 1. It's not like we'd need him to kit up and go play 90 minutes himself. FFS!

In the last 10 seasons he has won:

3 x Dutch League titles with PSV
1 x Dutch Cup
1 x Fa Cup with Chelsea

Before that he won 3 league titles, 1 European Cup, & 3 Dutch Cups with PSV.

Most part of the 90s he managed Holland, and for most of 00's he's managed Australia, Russia and South Korea.

So that is not a bad track record if you ask me.

Can we have Mourinho instead please? That's if we do find ourselves in a position where we require a new manager.

He's won next to nothing in 10 years and he's 63. The titles he managed to win in Holland don't count for much either imo, considering that the likes of Steve McClaren can do well over there.
