This was the Guardian writers' goal of the season.

It's a great strike... but I've seen lots of similar ones before.

It finished ahead of the Suarez goal versus Newcastle (yeah I think we see those as often as Bergkamp's wonder spinerella goal), and this stunner by Lowton (with count them - TWO - players in his face)

I'd have understood it if Suarez lost to Lowton, because that was an amazing strike under lots of pressure. Instead, the final vote count was:
- 6 for Van Persie
- 3 for Suarez
- 2 for Lowton

And then there's Paul Wilson (unashamed Everton fan) with this gem:
-- Van Persie's volley from Wayne Rooney's sumptuous pass against Aston Villa. Otherwise anything from the Bale collection.

Excuse me while I go puke out the lunch I just had.

i was a little surprised by how many of them were creaming over gareth bale . Is he really that good , is he really on the way to joining the level of messi and ronaldo ? . i haven't seen enough of him and am blinded by hatred to really judge .

He's been very good to be honest; and a couple were stating facts (carrying Spurs, scoring stunning goals, etc.), but some of them went really over the top describing him as the next best thing since Ronaldo. It's like he farts perfume and pees champagne (or whatever poison is your preference).

They chose this pic for their article. That's probably what a few of those guys would've liked to do for him when they were touching themselves and typing out their comments.

I've seen better goals scored this season by lesser players.

The media wankathon is not a surprise.

We've conceded a lot of goals this season through individual blunders and the individual brilliance of opponents, but I think this was the best team goal we've conceded all season:

Weimann's goal for Villa in their 3-1 win at Anfield.

Shit defending in the middle tracking Weimann's run to meet Benteke's backheel though.

I hate to break ranks but I don't really think they're being that outrageous by picking that goal - I'd definitely have it over the Lowton goal for example, which was great, but had an element of smash it and hope for the best.

We can all be assured that the media is peopled by utter cunts and Bale is a tool. They will chop him down at some point. Although the constant diving seems to pass them by. No surprise. Remember Beckham after '98? Then look at how his retirement was reported. Sad, tragic, pathetic figures are our press.

I agree. Take away the fact it's them lot and it's him and it's a fantastic goal. Sadly I hate him so much I cannot admit that most days.
