Griezmann - leaving Atleti

I would LOVE that. Been banging that drum for 2 years now.
Lacazette and Aulas have both confirmed that he's going to Atletico.

Of course Atletico have the small matter of the transfer ban to deal with. If the transfer ban stays, perhaps Lacazette will start looking for alternatives.

Yeah he's going to Utd. Which is annoying, cos he's fucking quality.

He is ... going to Manure it seems 🙁 and fucking quality ... But I'm not sold on Mourinho knowing how to manipulate this considering how he had quality with Pogba etc and got very little from them. Hopefully, this comment doesn't come back to bite me in the ass!

I think Griezmann would be good for them, unfortunately. Mourinho needs fast, tactically smart and consistent attackers – that's how his first Chelsea team outscored almost everyone in the league, while being typically defensively solid. Players like Robben, Duff, Gudjonssen, Hazard – ones who love to run into space that's created by inviting the other team to attack and know how to create chances and finish when attacking in small numbers.

This United side is short on such players, Mkhitaryan fits the bill age and quality wise, but I think he is not quite a Mourinho type psychologically and the rest are either too old or too slow or too young. Griezmann would be the first one (besides Ibrahimovic) who can really give Mourinho what he needs in attack, particularly on the counter. I would be much less worried if they got someone like James Rodriguez or Bernardo Silva, who have also been linked with them. Mourinho doesn't have a particularly keen eye for buying players (when given carte blanche at Inter he went and got Quaresma and Mancini), so let's hope he misses the mark again.

You could see how they took the counter yesterday. One looooooong ball that went into the hands of their goalie. Not even if they signed Bolt in the end would that counter be dangerous.

That's because they don't have the players to do it right. Mourinho has built some of the best counter-attacking sides I've ever seen with Chelsea (first spell), Inter and Real Madrid – if he has the right personnel he can surely create a devastating team, but this United team is still some ways away from playing this way.

They don't have the personell to do what? They obviously has pace in a few of those guys. And going in about how he made Real Madrid into a counterattack team shows why he was fired I presume. You dont use 95 million on one player to be a good counter attack team. Crystal Palace could ise 10 M on a player to strengthen the counter.

Pace alone is not enough. Martial has pace, for instance – but Mourinho doesn't trust him, because he is not mature enough to follow his detailed instructions. What I'm saying is that a) Mourinho needs certain type of attacking players to build his counter-attacking model, and b) he's not particularly good at buying this type of a player. Most of the key players in his best teams were inherited or bought without a lot of input from him in the DoF structure (Chelsea and Real). If United sign Griezmann, Mourinho will have one quality player that suits his model perfectly, so let's hope it doesn't happen.

I don't mind if it happens. To be good you need a certain balance. Griezman can talk about winning trophies all he wants, but that just shows frustration. And that frustrating feeling will no decline after a month or so when discovering that the shit style leads to nothing else than piss boring games. Look at the frustrated Torres securing the move to Chelsea. A move of frustration is not neccesary good.

No he doesn't trust Martial, cause Martial like to take a certain risk in his game. It doesn't suit them. So Griezman operating isolated up front while Olsson, Sakho, Keane, Verthongen etc kicks his heals will make hun happy any given raining freezing afternoon in Manchester? Cant see that happen.

Griezmann did win trophies at Atleti though - he just lost two big finals (he missed a penalty in one no?) so I guess he wants to be with a team that consistently wins ...

Mourinho said after the game that he has given the owners a list of what he wants. Hopefully you are right.

Griezmann and a couple of other players and they're not too far away. It's not that hard to build a side when you can basically buy whoever you want.

Still, it's a very competitive league and good as they might become, there may be a team or two that are better.

Griezmann said today in some athleti award ceremony he cannot wait to get back to train with the guys after his holiday.
This guy signals more than a freaking car on the highway. Make up your mind already.

He doesn't need trophies to be a winner but he is a winner.

Dunno about a replacement for Ibrahimovic (IMO they'd still need one even if they signed Griezmann) but I do agree he'd have been in danger of doing very well there.

Prior to Ibra they didn't play with a relatively immobile target man. Griezmann would have seen a return to greater mobility. As will Lacazette or someone else of his ilk.

Fair comment, but I don't see Griezmann's best position as the apex of an attack. They'd also still need to replace Ibrahimovic's stature and leadership within that squad.

"They".... have decided to look elsewhere apparently.

Greasymann is of no interest

Antoine Griezmann: Atletico Madrid forward to stay after transfer ban upheld

Antoine Griezmann joined Atletico Madrid from fellow Spanish side Real Sociedad in 2014
Antoine Griezmann says he will stay at Atletico Madrid next season as it would be a "dirty move" to leave the club after their transfer ban was upheld.
The 26-year-old forward had been linked with a move to Manchester United, before their interest in him cooled.
Atletico's appeal against a transfer ban for breaching Fifa rules over the signing of minors was rejected by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas).
"It's a hard time for the club," Griezmann told French television.
The France international told Telefoot he had decided to stay at the Spanish side after discussion with his sporting advisor Eric Olhats.
"It would be a dirty move to leave now - we talked to the leaders and we will be back for next season," he added.
Atletico, together with city rivals Real Madrid, were banned in July 2016 from registering players for two transfer windows and fined after a Fifa investigation concerning players aged under 18 who played in competitions for Atletico between 2007 and 2014, and Real from 2005 to 2014.
Both sides failed in their initial appeals to Fifa, but Real had their ban halved by Cas, while Atletico's suspension was upheld on Thursday, although their fine was reduced.
Atletico called the Cas ruling "unfair" and said it would cause "irreparable damage" to the club.
Later on Thursday, Griezmann posted a message on social media reading: "Now more than ever! #atleti #alltogether."
He had previously told French television show Quotidien there was a "6/10" chance of joining Manchester United this summer.
As Atletico cannot register new players again until 1 January 2018, it is anticipated they will offer Griezmann a new contract - his current deal includes a 100m euro (£86m) release clause.
