Glen Johnson

I realise it's de rigeour to criticise Glenjo, but this is just shit.

He was one of our better players on Saturday, and the above is a pretty good example of the greater problem we have; there's fucking no one to pass it to. Doesn't mean he should have just given it away, but having some movement in front of him would have been nice too.

He wasn't horrible on defense. He was this on offense. He could have done like all the other defensive players and pass sideways or back to the GK and at least not straight to their guy.

"on defense"

"on offense"

This was a very obvious mistake but to be fair it was no worse than any of the countless other individual errors of recent weeks. Defensively, i actually thought Johnson had one of his better games for a long while on Saturday.

To be fair though, he's set a laughably low bar over the last couple seasons.

You blindly defend him(no pun intended), and Allen even when they're fucking hopeless yet you waste no time in going to town on the likes of Enrique, Henderson and Coutinho if they have a bad game. Strange.

We've made 16 defensive errors so far. More than any team in the league.
Johnson is one of the biggest culprits, good game or not on saturday.

Quoted for truth.

Johnson had a horrible effort down the sideline against Hazard in the 2nd half and gave the ball away a couple of times but was one of our best against the Chavs.

The movement thing is insane. I can't tell if the original poster is cleverly pointing out the utter lack of movement from other players (Johnson actually holds his hands up and has to ask players to move) or is mind numbingly trying to get everyone to swallow one of the more common cult logos that seem to pass as football insight for the Sky generation.

I got "sky generation" in my game of superfan bingo! Only need "you need to go the game" for house!

Johnson tried to force play, but he he isn't good enough to.

It's Johnson fault for losing possession, however it was the teams fault for not moving

In fact, can was moving towards space on the right. If Johnson just held possession it could have been an outlet

Can was moving slower than evolution - he'd still be waiting.
Course he would

Or Johnson could play a pass in to the space can is toddling in to, rather than try and thread a pass through several blue shirts

Yes there should have been movement, but to use that as an excuse for Johnson to willingly give the ball away is just daft.

Also, the sky generation comment is laughable.

Obviously only deep football thinkers can understand why Johnson gave the ball away, rather than just passing it sideways or backwards.

Aahhh, now I get it - we're condemning Johnson for giving the ball away. How did I miss it - he should have been dragged on the spot, hung from the rafters by his balls and told to do a hundred sit-ups.

Should we get a clip of the number of times Moreno has given the ball away, the immense number of times Can has given the ball away or the possibly incalculable number of times Mario has given it away?

Posters with nothing better to do with their time, reading every 10 word sentence handed down by some overpaid pundit and then regurgitating it pointlessly as though it implies their knowledge of football. Johnson is one of the subjects of choice so we get some example of him giving the ball away and play it as though it's somehow a revolutionary divine insight into a dimension of a players performance that nobody has ever previously witnessed. All done in regards to a game in which he was one of our best performers.

But lets ignore the game, lets ignore the problem and lets ignore solutions; instead we should myopically focus on a symptom cause that seems to be the done thing right now.

None of the original posts were directed at you Fabio - you just felt the need to wade in with your personal crusade to support this movement of concentrating on a symptom. None of my other posts are really directed at you either - in fact I do suspect if you ever have something credible to say you could well turn out to be interesting.

Of course were condemning Johnson for that.

I clearly never stated the team needed to move for him

Oh hang on... I did say that

Main problem we have for you is that you can't be objective in Johnson. He's our bestest fullback. In spite of the fact he's served up healthy portions of shite for 2 years.

I thought Johnson had a good game at the weekend, I put him in my top 3 in the morse ratings. He actually defended which is rare for him. This doesn't mean he can't get criticism though does it?

Look at the video. Why oh why is THAT pass the best option? Why not retain the ball? Why not pass it sideways and then make the run in to space himself? @gkmacca often bemoans our inability to pass the ball and retain possession, instead opting to force the play.

I've yet to see Moreno give it away that blatantly.

Mario has and probably will again... But he's been getting stick since the minute he signed, so... Yeah... Your point?

And as for me making this a personal crusade, believe me it's not. I'll collar anyone who chats bollocks consistently.

Least Ryan comes up with a decent post or 2 before every bad one.

He was fucking shit on Saturday. Again. Yes, he could've had more movement from other players, but he was awful otherwise. Manquillo should've played. I accept Rodgers' reluctance to overplay Manquillo due his lack of experience, but Johnson isn't the answer.

Sigh!!

I know, a great idea for a new thread - in fact about 20 new threads - I'll get a clip of every player giving the ball away and use it to start a thread, thus proving that every player we have is rubbish. Maybe that'll look too obvious - I'll just choose one for whom some posters have a vendetta, wait till he has a good game and then post a clip of him making a mistake. Whalllah - instant attention.

You defend Mario incessantly in every thread with piss poor suggestions that he doesn't get the service or he's not being played in the right system or some such bollocks. The only people he's passed it to more consistently than the opposition are the supporters in row Z. He's been utterly woeful and he doesn't even care and you defend him blindly through it all but let someone point out that Johnson hasn't actually been the worst player to touch the Anfield turf or, incredibly, defend him when he was one of our best performers and suddenly that crap has to be stamped out.

I think Johnson has had plenty of very average displays over the last two years but the way posters like you go on anyone would think he was a calamity every week and then suggest that someone like Manquillo - who's potentially far better but currently much worse - should be there instead. Fabulous idea - lets put in a player who got absolutely slaughtered by a Madrid team which, apparently, wasn't even trying.

Anyway, you bore me with your monotonous inability to offer anything new or interesting so I'll leave you to it.

It is good how you've written off manquillo after an away game to the European champions, and one for the top 3 teams in the world at the minute. He had a bad game in... What? 6 games?

I've defended Mario mainly because he plays better with a partner, something which Rodgers is reluctant to try for any decent period of time.

I enjoy how you've decided to slate other players however, rather than, you know, discuss Johnson.

I also always enjoy how you appear to post if there's a Johnson thread. It's almost like you have the incessant desire to defend him.

But fine, feel free to not discuss it (as I actually suggested alternatives to Johnson actions in that clip, and actually praised his performance), and say I'm the monotonous one.
