He wasn't horrible on defense. He was this on offense. He could have done like all the other defensive players and pass sideways or back to the GK and at least not straight to their guy.
This was a very obvious mistake but to be fair it was no worse than any of the countless other individual errors of recent weeks. Defensively, i actually thought Johnson had one of his better games for a long while on Saturday.
I realise it's de rigeour to criticise Glenjo, but this is just shit.
He was one of our better players on Saturday, and the above is a pretty good example of the greater problem we have; there's fucking no one to pass it to. Doesn't mean he should have just given it away, but having some movement in front of him would have been nice too.

Course he wouldCan was moving slower than evolution - he'd still be waiting.
Also, the sky generation comment is laughable.
Obviously only deep football thinkers can understand why Johnson gave the ball away, rather than just passing it sideways or backwards.

It's called defence and attack.
Aahhh, now I get it - we're condemning Johnson for giving the ball away. How did I miss it - he should have been dragged on the spot, hung from the rafters by his balls and told to do a hundred sit-ups.
Should we get a clip of the number of times Moreno has given the ball away, the immense number of times Can has given the ball away or the possibly incalculable number of times Mario has given it away?
Posters with nothing better to do with their time, reading every 10 word sentence handed down by some overpaid pundit and then regurgitating it pointlessly as though it implies their knowledge of football. Johnson is one of the subjects of choice so we get some example of him giving the ball away and play it as though it's somehow a revolutionary divine insight into a dimension of a players performance that nobody has ever previously witnessed. All done in regards to a game in which he was one of our best performers.
But lets ignore the game, lets ignore the problem and lets ignore solutions; instead we should myopically focus on a symptom cause that seems to be the done thing right now.
None of the original posts were directed at you Fabio - you just felt the need to wade in with your personal crusade to support this movement of concentrating on a symptom. None of my other posts are really directed at you either - in fact I do suspect if you ever have something credible to say you could well turn out to be interesting.
He was fucking shit on Saturday. Again. Yes, he could've had more movement from other players, but he was awful otherwise. Manquillo should've played. I accept Rodgers' reluctance to overplay Manquillo due his lack of experience, but Johnson isn't the answer.
Of course were condemning Johnson for that.
I clearly never stated the team needed to move for him
Oh hang on... I did say that
Main problem we have for you is that you can't be objective in Johnson. He's our bestest fullback. In spite of the fact he's served up healthy portions of shite for 2 years.
I thought Johnson had a good game at the weekend, I put him in my top 3 in the morse ratings. He actually defended which is rare for him. This doesn't mean he can't get criticism though does it?
Look at the video. Why oh why is THAT pass the best option? Why not retain the ball? Why not pass it sideways and then make the run in to space himself? @gkmacca often bemoans our inability to pass the ball and retain possession, instead opting to force the play.
I've yet to see Moreno give it away that blatantly.
Mario has and probably will again... But he's been getting stick since the minute he signed, so... Yeah... Your point?
And as for me making this a personal crusade, believe me it's not. I'll collar anyone who chats bollocks consistently.
Least Ryan comes up with a decent post or 2 before every bad one.
