Gimme dat Ings

Ings seems more likely to get in the box and be available to take chances and score goals, given the right service

It is true that I don't rate Origi, largely because he doesn't seem to be a natural finisher, he often plays wide and avoids the penalty area. His workrate and pace are impressive, but he seems more athlete and less footballer to me
He's not a natural finisher, but neither was drogba and it did him no harm.

Origi looked immense in the 2nd half of the season. He leads the line better than any of our strikers. Plus he works tirelessly running down the channels. He's completely different from our other strikers. When he got injured he was definitely missed as he's the only one who can bully defenders. Sturridge is by far the better finisher but origi leads the line better than any one at our club. Wouldn't surprise me if we play one up top against arsenal that he starts with origi and not sturridge or ings.

Quite. I think him and Origi with Mane could be a real menace to opposition defenses this season, they all like to close quickly and harass. Throw Sturridge into the equation and we've got a good mix of attributes - strength, pace, goals. Sorted.

Strength: Origi, Mane, Firmino (sort of)
Speed: Mane, Ings, Origi, Sturridge
Finishing: only Sturridge for sure, all others have decent potential, but also question marks
Technique and dribbling: Sturridge, Firmino, Mane, Origi (for a big man)
Heading: none of them are particularly great in the air, Origi is the tallest
Holding up the ball and defensive contribution: Origi does both, Firmino and Ings mostly the latter
Passing and playmaking: Firmino, Sturridge

I think it is a promising mix, even though none of our strikers can be described as world-class. But given a clear system that uses their respective strengths they can cause defenses some damage next season.

I'm not sure Drogba is a great comparison for not being a natural finisher. He was immense in his last season in France - which we found to our cost against Marseilles - and scored a fucking hatful. And he scored a hatful more in England, even with some lengthy injuries. I will admit he didn't always score as many as you would expect, but let's not start pretending Origi is anything like as good, or ever will be.

I'm not saying origi will be as good as drogba, just saying drogba wasn't a natural finisher. It was hit or miss if he would score one on one. But his game wasn't about that. Plus he was a lot older by the time he came to Chelsea so origi has time on his side. He will definitely improve and show you his worth this season.

I'm fact for his first 2 seasons for Chelsea he scored 10 & 12 premier league goals.

Origi:
14/15 - 44 apps and 9 goals (Lille)
15/16 - 33 apps and 10 goals (Liverpool)

Ings:
14/15 - 37 apps and 11 goals (Burnley)
15/16 - 9 apps and 3 goals (Liverpool)

Their records are quite similar (Origi's Liverpool record is on a par with Ings' the season previous). With Ings having more experience in English football and being 3yrs older than Origi.

They both have a record that's respectably close to 1 goal in 3-4 apps, which is impressive enough at this stage.
Also note that Ings was an established member of the Burnley side and played the full 90 mins in the majority of games listed over those two seasons. Quite the opposite to Origi who was a teenager trying to break into the team and was either subbed on or subbed off on many occasions. If you broke that down into goals per minutes played I think it would look quite different.

That said I do really like Ings' energy and I think he has that goal-poacher's instinct that our other strikers lack. I actually really like our CF options this season, they all offer something different and depending on who the opposition is or the problems they are posing, we will have variety in attack. Add Coutinho, Firmino, Mane and Wijnaldum to that, plus Matip (and maybe Ragnar when he plays) and we are going to be a dangerous team likely to score no matter who the opposition is.
