Gillett claims the club is in 'outstanding' financial shape etc.

we would have had to give every member of the first team something like a 50 grand a week pay hike to account for that figure, so it's a load of shite.

It was a projection of what our wage bill would be in 2014, wasn't it?

that makes sense. i didn't read the article. assumed it was accounting for our lack of transfer funds this summer.

Kuyt got one too didn't he ?

Mascherano is the only one that didn't.

poor old mash, he's doing his sulking on the pitch.

Blimey so that means that every year barring increases in revenue Rafa gets a pot of twenty million to spend on everything including players and wage increases.... and our owners are so strapped for cash that they have advertised this as an enticement to potential investors.

.... until 2014.

This means without doubt that unless further investment is found we are will be relying on finding cheap gems to improve or selling of stars to fund our transfer activity.

20M in the current market is basically the complete death of any ambition.

I think £20M a year is fair enough. It could be better but I don't think it's a reason to kick off over.

Benitez simply has to prioritise his budget correctly.

And not being a mathematician but if you borrow 50M over 5 years and pay back 104M!!!..... in order to pay back another loan.... i wonder how bad the first loan must be.

I cannot agree squiggles i'm afraid, its twenty million to include all further expenses on playing personnell including signing on fees, agents, wage rises etc.....everything in fact.

We basically are unable to buy in a single really good player for the next 5 years unless we discover them first or we sell.

I would kick off at the drop of a hat generally anyway but ..... well that to me says FUCKED in capital letters.

It is when that figure includes the contract renewals as well.

Ah, didn't get that...

Then if progress is made with the stadium I think it's understandable because we will have to stick to smaller budgets during the build. If not, then it's pretty unforgivable.

AHHHHHAaaahhahaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHAAAAAHHAHAHAHHAHAAAAAA.....

best thing written all week....

Progress with the stadium - i.e. a spade in the ground - within the next 4-5 years isn't unachievable.

I wonder when the yank shite next plan to take in a match at Anfield. I'd love to see them pelted with half eaten steak and kidney pies.

you are cracking me up chief.... really... so the position we are in currently would be acceptable if we had a new stadium.

erm.....

Of course, but there isn't, so what's the point?

Or are you expecting a stadium build to have no effect whatsoever on our transfer/wage budgets? Now that is laughable.

ok say 25% of this goes on new contracts etc leaving us with 15 million.

imo we need a second striker and a left forward.

if we were to be in for a silva type for 25 million and promote a nemeth type we need to spend 30 million including fees etc

doseena, reserve keeper, babel, voronin, el zahr will raise c15 million.

doseena, voronin, el zahr and reserve keeper aren't good enough and we already have capable replacements.

babel i would let go if it meant bringing in a quality left sided player.

we can manage on 20 million a year short term but if a new stadium isn't built and/or we don't get revenue from somewhere else pretty soon after next summer i can see us slipping further and further back as the likes of carra and gerrard get older.

as a transfer budget 20 million plus sales is a bare minimum but once u start adding in wage rises etc its no way enough once u have got rid of the deadwood.

fuck a fat duck.

Are you expecting a stadium build to have no effect on our transfer budget he asks....... errrr.....WHAT FUCKING STADIUM BUILD !!! Have they done one on the sly and not told anyone or something?? maybe they made it out the ultra high tech stelth material borrowed from the pentagon, or a big version of that harry fucking potter magic cloak....Are you having a laugh or something???

We are pretty much already in the transfer shit according to their own fucking documents which also talk of borrowing 50 million to pay off other loans which is then itself repaid at 104M over five years and you still dont seem to get the fucking picture la.... the stadium build is about as pie in the fucking sky as is it is possible to be....they should call it the Fray fucking Bentos arena.... just what the fuck???It wont need any blimps circling over it for panoramic views its so high up... YES Squiggs if we did have a new stadium build i spose i would expect it to fuck up our transfer kitty somewhat.... a bit like it is already.

FFS.

You have driven me to the pub.

Thankyou.

20m net spend per year is a fucking sight more than Rafa was given this past summer so at least it's an improvement.

If that's really what we've got to work with... which I do find hard to believe... we're going need one or two world class players to emerge from the reserves just to stay in the top 4.

From Anfield Online:

£20M transfer fund rumours old news
According to Liverpool Chief Executive Christian Purslow, Liverpool spent £20M this summer however our own figures indicate that in terms of net transfer spend Liverpool made a net transfer PROFIT of £14 M in 2009.

Why the disparity?

It looks to us like some clever accounting.

Liverpool have included the cost of ‘extending contracts’ such as Torres one year extension in to this summer’s transfer spend. They have also only included this summer’s installment payments.

So if we paid our £20M for Aquilani up front, and Real Madrid only paid a £5M installment for their £30M Alonso fee then Liverpool have decided that counts as Liverpool spending £15M on new players.

That article makes no sense.
[/quote]

it makes sense.

so basically if we are incurring a cost 3 years in the future its taken out (or ring fenced like the torres extension) from the current budget whilst if we're expecting staged payments from selling a player (alonso) future income is ignored.

that way our net spending appears higher than it actually is.

bizarre way of doing the books.

Not if you want the fans to believe you're investing more heavily in players than you actually are.

And you have a manager effectively gagged from complaining.

We know the press will buy that Rafa has spent more than he actually has.
