Does anyone else know or heard about this? Read somewhere that it is only waiting to be officially finalised once George reaches Saudi.

1 down.....

Hopefully they will just chat between themselves in Arabic when in the boardroom, Hicks will get majorly fucked off with it, and do one himself.

Saudi prince: Liverpool talks near 'final stage'

Prince Faisal says his company’s negotiations to buy shares in Liverpool are ongoing.

RIYADH - Saudi Prince Faisal bin Fahd bin Abdullah said on Wednesday that talks over his F6 company buying a major stake in Liverpool are nearing conclusion, as club co-owner George Gillett visited Riyadh.

"Our negotiations to buy shares in Liverpool are ongoing, meetings are taking place and we might be in the final stages in the coming days," Prince Faisal said.

Gillett, one of the two US owners of the legendary but heavily-indebted English team, was in Riyadh mainly to discuss a project regarding the creation of Liverpool soccer academies around the region, Prince Faisal said.

In recent weeks, both parties have admitted that potential investment from Faisal has been firmly on the agenda.

Gillett and club co-owner Tom Hicks have been seeking new investment in Liverpool after refinancing some of its large debt during the summer.

The two met with Prince Sultan bin Fahd, president of the Saudi Youth Welfare organisation and chairman of the Saudi League, on Wednesday.

"The purpose of the visit of the owner of Liverpool Football Club to Saudi Arabia is to understand the sports industry and to learn about the facilities and the potential of the main clubs in order to set up the Liverpool Academy in Saudi Arabia," Prince Faisal said.

The agreement between F6, a sports marketing and investment firm controlled by Faisal, would also provide opportunities for young Saudi players to train at Liverpool, he said.

And in other news: MPs discussed a variety of political matters earlier today in Parliament; the stock market was a bit up and down throughout the day; several people were accused of breaking the law somewhere or other; some frightfully awful weather affected some parts of the world this afternoon; and, in sport, a horse of some kind won the 3.10 at Newmarket, followed by another horse in second and another in third.

If it does happen, i guess we can expect one January signing from this guy to win the fans.

That may get on Hicks' tits, however...

Please make it stop.

All we're getting is slightly rephrased versions of reports from a fortnight ago. So...too vague to be helpful.

Well, Gillett is in Saudi Arabia. We'll see soon enough if he really will buy Gilletts 50 %.

If the Prince wants to make money availeble for a signing, he can of course do that. Hicks will probably only be happy if the other part makes some money availeble for the manager.

so how would that work?

if i own 50% of a business i'd want my business partner to match any money i invest in our asset.

So you think the Prince can't decide for himself if he wants to invest 20-30 mill extra? Pocket change for him, and gets on the fans good foot. Wheter or not he would want Hicks to invest the same amount, I think none of us really know that ehh?

So you know how a potential partnership between Hicks and the Prince will be set up? If Hicks gives his thumbs up, I have no doubts about some money being made availeble.

It will work in the same way that every other company in the world operates.

There are two main ways a company can raise money - selling shares or taking on debt. If the Prince wants to pump more money in either his shareholding becomes bigger than Hicks' or else the club gets into more debt.

Hicks is not going to let his shareholding be dissolved into less than his current 50% stake.

Look at Arsenal - last summer Usmanov tried to force a rights issue in order to raise 100m for transfers. He wasn't allowed to by his partners.

There are rumours doing the rounds about Hicks selling 5-10 % aswell. If that happens, it's a completley different ball game. Thats why we can't say anthing for certain, because we don't know what kind of talks Hicks and the Prince have had.

Why does it bother you? When person A buys X from person B, generally the money goes from A to B.

Thats what I thought. So how are we better off if we've just replaced one with the other? Can you see the Prince investing further in the club if the other yank is not dipping in his pocket as well
