The reason you'd have to get in the trenches to start with is Kuyt. That team Gerrard picked would never need any trench warfare.

I'd have had Didi in there no matter what - Masher would be a handy backup. I'd probably pick Finnan ahead of Johnson as well but you could see the arguments either way.

I'd be leaning to Carra's line-up.

Torres at his best - I still think I'd have him in there but there's some unrest between Carra and Torres which hasn't been cleared up yet. That said there's an absolute mountain of goals in those front three.


No way Agger is getting in there ahead of him but a nice act of humility from Jamie all the same.
