He's in hospital for treatment on an infection. Club say they expect him to stay in for a few days and be available for selection in September. I really don't like the sound of this.

Liverpool FC this afternoon issued the following statement:

Steven Gerrard today began a course of antibiotic treatment for an infection related to an ongoing groin problem.

He is expected to remain in hospital for several days while the precautionary procedure is completed.

The player will then return to Melwood to continue his rehabilitation programme and is expected to be available for selection in September.

The rumours that his career is over are proving to be more well founded with each passing week.

Not looking forward to the thread remembering one of, if not our best ever player when he final retires. Hopefully that's a few years away rather than months.
Nah, he will be wheeled on for the last two minutes of our final league game this season, to bring his premiership league appearances to ten,(total number of minutes played - 95) so he can collect a winners medal along with the Premier League trophy

Count, do you think the league will have relaxed rules on players on mobility scooters by then?
No, but the off side rule is going so Stevie will just limp around the opposition's penalty area for the duration of injury time in each game.

So that could be the end of his career. The club will keep on delaying his return. Ten years from now they will be saying we expect him to be fit for next Saturday's match. It's a bit like telling the kids that the dog has been sent to live on a farm but it's actually been put down.

If he's ready for selection in september and the latest set back is a infection thats better no? Not another strain or muscle set back.

Absolutely hilarious. No, really it is.

Smokescreen IMO. For "an infection in the groin area" read "things aren't going smoothly and we need to get him back into hossie without alerting anybody".

I was told a few weeks ago that the club literally couldn't find a specialist willing to treat him simply because none of the people they spoke to deemed themselves equipped to deal with this injury. If true that does worry me greatly, & would explain why the rumours were started & persist.

I personally believe no-one at the club knows whether he'll recover properly.

If true, how the hell is that possible? Surely the Doctors/Surgeons/Fitness people would be capable at dealing with all sorts of different injuries???

Even if they weren't, can't it be treated by someone outside the Club?

Seems really messed up this.

ive been working around the clock on that one

I do find it hard to believe myself, but that said I've never heard of 95% of the groin muscle being pulled from the bone before.

Just googled it, & found brief mention of a similar injury within American Football, the player was out for a season.

Its pretty common with post op bacterial infections actually. Guess it happened with the second op he had not long ago. Imho its better with an infection than a new strain set back no? Its obvious that its a very complicated and unusual injury.
But, its no use wondering if hes finished our not, as 99% of all the rumours are not true. Let him have the time he needs to get fit again, even if it takes 4 more months. When hes fit again it will only be a huge bonus. Rushing him back is somethingwe shouldnt do as we have done that more than enough times. But there isnt any point in speculating cause we have no clue either way.
