Steven Gerrard predicts newly-installed first-team coach Steve Clarke can help have a positive impact on Liverpool's form.

The Scot was appointed by the Reds last week having previously worked with Newcastle United, Chelsea and West Ham United to much acclaim.

And Gerrard has revealed how he's looking forward to seeing what methods Clarke implements in training at Melwood alongside boss Kenny Dalglish and assistant manager Sammy Lee.

He told LFC Weekly: "I think he's a great appointment. From what I've seen he's supported some fantastic managers in his career. He played at the top level and has vast experience in the game.

"It's early days yet but the training sessions have been good. If he can come in and help us tighten up defensively and help us improve going forward he'll be a fantastic addition to the coaching staff.

"It's exciting to see how his relationship will work with Kenny. Hopefully the pair of them, along with Sammy Lee, can help guide us up the league.

"Between them that trio have plenty of experience and should make a very good coaching team."

Dalglish, Clarke and Lee all enjoyed successful playing careers before turning their hands to coaching.

Gerrard, however, is unsure whether he'll follow suit when he hangs up his boots - though he is eager to remain involved in football in some capacity.

He said: "It's not my main priority or focus at the moment, I still think that's a long way off. I believe I can play football for another four or five years.

"But I do sometimes think about what I'm going to do when I finish playing and I would like to stay involved in some capacity, whether that's on the media side or in the dugout we'll have to wait and see.

"I will certainly try to get my coaching qualifications at some point."

Yeah, me too.

Is Mourinho's well documented problems at Real with Valdano the beginning of then?

And is Clarke's appointment a precursor to a possible Mourinho approach?
