We snapped this kid up from the Real Madrid academy back in 2007.

Joined our Youth/Reserves with high praises from the media - World Soccer Magazine listed him in the top 10 youngsters in world football at the time.

Real Madrid were absolutely fuming that he left from what I recall.

So can someone explain to me what went wrong with this kid?

I find it incredible that at the age of 23 such a highly rated player is now playing for Whitehawk in Conference South ...

I mean, fair enough if he's playing for a mid-table team in England, France, Germany, Holland, Spain ... or even a division below ... but to end up at Conference South?!

He was very underwhelming right from the start, and never made much impact for the reserves. It was an exciting signing at the time, but it seems obvious looking back that it was hyped up way beyond reason, probably including the stories of Real's anger at losing him.

Not sure what level he could have reached, but I suppose once you start dropping down the leagues it must be easy to just become defeated by the disappointment.

Decent technique and the odd nice free kick.

Crazy to think he was dubbed as some kind of Messi.

I remember him. Small, sweet left foot, a bit like suso. Didn't he suffer a couple of long term (knee?) injuries?

Yup, I recall Madrid were fuming we had signed Bruna and they labelled him their very own Messi.

I know a majority of the time it doesn't go according to plan for a youngster ... but for one to be rates so incredibly highly to end up in Conference South only a few years later is crazy.
