Not sure if this is posted anywhere , can't find it in here or the other sports forum but Boston are in the World Series and smashed the 1st game.

Given what FSG did with them since taking over it continues to be encouraging. I hope Boston win and it gives John Henry more appetite (and more money) for investing in us.

All I can find out is that the Giants made $230mill during the 7game series in 2011, mainly from gate receipts.

You can understand why when tickets for last nights game went for between 1k standing to 10k seated!!!

The pinnacle of baseball for any professional player in Japan, central and south America, the Caribbean or anywhere else they play it is the MLB. It is far, far superior to any other league. Therefore to actually make it to play in the majors, and win a world series, is the absolute top of the profession.
Hence why it is the world championship.
But don't let facts or lack of understanding get it the way of making purile wisecracks based on ignorance.

Next time your explaining it to them try and get it right

Aside from the fact that I cant think of any reason why a company would be called 'World Series' in 1903 when the competition began, the explanation you have given has widely been discredited as an urban myth for obvious reasons.

The original version of the story goes that the post season playoff was sponsored by the New York World news paper and hence renamed the World Series, however there is no record of the competition ever being sponsored at all let alone being sponsored by the New York World. Considering records of the newspaper in question still exist its pretty obvious that if they were indeed the sponsor some evidence would remain.

The likely explanation for the popularity of this lie is because its incomprehensible to most people that a sporting event exclusively for North American teams would be called the 'World Series
