Three predictions...................

1. If they don't sign anyone before the transfer window closes they will be struggling for a top 4 place by Xmas.

2. They will spend big before the transfer window closes.

3. If they don't spend big soon I will dance around my office from Sept 1st til Xmas.

Reigning champions to be struggling for the top 4 by xmas? You're brave.

Not as brave as Matt LeTissier who, on Sky Sports, predicted that Burnley would win last night. Merson, Jewell and the host of the show ridiculed him and were totally humbled 2 hours later. Great prediction.

Every year they look shit early on, we get all happy, then they win another title.

Don't do it to yourselves people. If they need additional players, they'll buy them. If they don't, they'll find ways to win, they always fucking do.

Every thread which talks about Mancs should have this as the signature.

I think Pesam has a point.

I think the best they'll do this year is 3rd
Bloody hell. I think whoever finishes above them will win the league myself.

Its the fear factor, yes they have absentees at the moment but its not Like VDS is the most solid keeper in the league and if they are looking to Ferdinand and Vidic to make up the goals then they really are in trouble

Without making too fine a point of it Utd last seen won the league by decimating the lower half of the table with ruthless efficient, this was mostly the work of one C Ronaldo and while some use that as a stick to beat him with (not a big game player nonsense) it was clearly what we lacked last year

After we gave them a hiding last year you could see other teams started to re evaluate the idea that this was some sort of unbreachable defence and decide that rather than turn up and surrender the bast chance of getting points was to go at them, Fulham did it and won, Villa did it and Ronaldo bailed them out, Spurs did it and Ronaldo bailed them out. Once he left the idea that they were fair game has cleary gone right through the division, they will still win the majority of their games and be there or there abouts for the league but they will have to work for it this time and unless a topclass midfielder comes in by the end of the month I think they will struggle to mount a serious challenge.

Be careful what you wish for Wayne

Quote of the night for me.
Chambelin "Do you think such a long draught is affecting Owen?"
Merson "Yeah, if it goes on much longer they'll be holding charity concerts for him"
Good grief. The fog lifted from Merson's brain enough to allow him to say that?

I'm with Ross - if their squad stays the same as now, I don't think they'll be fiercely challenging come May, and I don't think I'm being naive either.

They're not some unstoppable laser-guided force. They've got good strength and depth which will help them, but their first team has significanly weakened, and every match is now going to be a battle for them.

I think they'll be there or there abouts, but no more than that.

But they look shit and usually grind out the wins. If last night's debacle is anything to go by, last years last ditch wins may well turn into draws/defeats this season.

Farky got it bang on. You're all mad people.

We're two games into the season and everyone got a bit upset when we written off after losing to Stoke, yet everyone seems to be quite willing to do the same with Man Utd... of all teams. We've not *really* looked any more convincing than they have and a the points total remains the same.

No, but I wouldn't put money on us, Chelsea or Arsenal either, so there isn't much you can get out of my answer to that question.

They had the worst start in ages last season and still ended up winning it. I'm not trying to suggest that they're certs to win it this time round but to start going on at this very early stage of the season that they'll somehow struggle to make 3rd or 4th is extremely premature.

I could be completely wrong and it's a stick your neck out prediction, but I think they'll be third, finshing 5-10 points short

The "well, they always win it" argument doesn't have the weight behind it to compensate for an absent Ronaldo or Tevez, IMO.

I think Ferguson will be talking about rebuilding next summer. I certainly hope.

Over thae last 15 years, no matter how dodgy their form has been, I have never written them off and always advised against other doing so. However this is different, their squad is poor with a lot of ageing and average players; Scholes, Giggs, VDS and Neville being the ageing and; Nani, Brown, Anderson, Fletcher, O'Shea, Park, Fabio, being distinctly average.

Added to that; Carrick, Berbatov, Owen and Valencia are not good enough for a top 4 team IMO.

Rooney, Evra, Vidic and Ferdinand are their only top class performer and even then there is an increasing worry (for them) about the regularity of Fedinand's back injury. I know they have Evans to replace him and he looks good but it's doubtful he will ever become as good as Ferdinand.

For the first time in a long time (if they don't sign anyone before Sept 1st) I am prepared to write off their title hopes.
