Not just a reaction to today's win but are they the new powerhouse of modern football over Brazil, Argentina, Italy.

Three World Cup finals in the last 20 years with 2 wins. One euro win and one euro final.

There are 50 players from the French system playing in the world cup this year. Second is Brazil at 28.

The above video provides an interesting perspective and focuses mainly on how immigration helps French football.

But a lot of credit must also go to the French Academy and training system. Do people here know more about it? Are they doing something different?

I know everything goes in cycles but they seem to be producing a truckload of talent from a league which is considered mediocre. Their academies must be doing something right as they are not just producing one type of player - they seem to be adaptable and doing well in all the major leagues in Europe.

It seems to be cyclical, doesn't it? The Spanish had a factory line of brilliant talent over the last decade.

The French and Belgians seem to be the new ones. The Dutch talent factory seems to have completely dried up.

We never get one.

England U17s - World Cup winners
England U19s - Euros winners
England U20s - World Cup winners
England U21s - Euros semi-finalists
England seniors - World Cup semi-finalist

Hmm.
We have good children. The adults were shit as per. We lost three times and blagged a semi final berth.

There is a cyclical aspect to it but I think France may have hit upon a model which is more sustainable. There will be dips but they have a decent chance of winning 2 more world cups in the next 20 years.

Look, I'm not arsed about this at all, and I know England didn't beat anyone any good in this comp... but look at how well the kids are doing. Look at the fact that one way or the other England did just get to the semis with the youngest squad in the comp... and how can anyone who does support England feel pessimistic? It's the best possible position to step up to being serious contenders in all comps for the next decade.

Pickford, Kane, Alli, Trippier, Maguire - regular club starters, won nothing.

Walker, Young - playing out of position

Hendo, Lingaard, Stones, Sterling - doesn't start that regularly.

None of them with the exception of Kane/Alli are even key players.

Yeah. There looks to be some very decent youngsters coming through, and a lot of them have experience of winning things in international age-grade comps. Whether this will translate to anything on the bigger stage, fuck knows, but there is definite scope for optimism. Sessegnon, Brewster, Foden and Sancho could all be pushing for places at Euro 2020 (should we make it...not arrogant...etc)

Sterling and Henderson play almost every game when fit.

Young French players always get a chance in the French league. England have some very good young players with lots of potential but they will never get the chance e.g. phil foden at city or Jadon Sancho who has ended up at dormund

Didier Deschamps looks like a Parisien tramp that they've put in a suit and let him pretend to be France's manager. He makes Albert Steptoe Corbyn look like Justin Trudeau.

A few players apart I think it's one of the shittest French teams in a while, and before somebody says it no I don't think winning the world cup proves otherwise.

France had probably the most complete side at the world cup. Great attackers, great midfielders, and a great defence

Cannot fathom anyone thinking otherwise

Who do you think is shit? It's hard to spot a weakness in that side*. The manager is their biggest weakness, yet he guided them to a WC.

*Apart from Giroud.

Deschamps has been criticised for a rather dour approach, and favouring systems and formations over skill, as well as leaving behind some more eye-catching talent.

But while all the above has some merit, it's hard to shout about, for example, Matuidi playing in that advanced LM role, ahead of more obvious attacking talent like Dembele or Fekir, or whoever, when he's won the World Cup. It's not like there wasn't top creative talent at all: Pogba, Griezman, Mbappe is an impressive trio.

And as you say, they have great talent all over the pitch, apart from in the striker position, but Giroud was there to do a certain job.

And - repeating myself - THEY WON THE WORLD CUP.

I'm surprised as the bashing of this French team. As Twisty says, apart from Girpoo up top, the team was full of quality.
