So with Comolli reputed to have beaten the Chavs and Scum to Marveaux and us apparently looking to tie up a Taiwo deal it looks like our left side will be strengthened.

With a kitty of say £50M, what or who should be our priority signings?

We desperately need some creativity in the team. AM, RW, Striker, DM and CB?

Have I missed something?

Not at all Jan. Marveaux is reported to have signed a pre-contract with us and there's talk of negotiation with Taiwo.

Nothing official from the club but...

*Rosco voice*

What makes you think we'll have £50M to spend ?
[/quote]

Clearly nobody has ever listened to a word Ive said. I think I need some prick on Twitter to tweet this or some half baked journo to write it before anyone will actually believe it, but it's in black and white in the accounts.

last published accounts (end of 2009 season) show Income = 185m, Outgoings = 197m + Interest of 40m.
= Total Loss of 52m. Remove interest, still a loss of 12m.

That 52m loss was covered by a loan from the parent company (H&G) to LFC, that loan will never be repaid - hence the "epic swindle".

H&G's plan completely failed, they paid all the interest ultimately. However people still think that the interest was the reason why we couldn't spend. It wasn't. It was everything else. I know the media narrative has been H&G were dragging the club down, but the truth is they were, ever so slightly, subsidising us. And until people start realising that to be the truth they are going to have completely unrealistic expectations for the club's short term future, and they will inevitably cast aspersions on FSG. It's so utterly predictable and it's beginning already. Unfortunately the 2010 accounts are probably unlikely to be available before the start of the summer window but if they were you would be able to have a guess at what our spending will be.

From now on I'm going to encourage people to think we'll have 100m net spend during the summer, and quote some unknown Scandinavian with a liverpool jersey on Twitter.

Have a sit down Rosco and breathe!

You'll end up getting a stroke.

I haven't had a drink this weekend, that's my problem. I'll be rectifying that in about 15 mins.

That's the spirit ol' chap. Its out of our hands so we get front row seats to the coming ins and going outs at our beloved Anfield.

Plus there's the stadium issue to be sorted.

We've staved off bankruptcy, now to secure our future. Some silverware ubder Kenny would be a great start.

Bottoms up!

Is it just me or are G&H fools? If they were going to pay off the interest themselves anyway, they should have paid it directly to RBS rather loaning the money to the club to pay it... that way they could, at least, have said they are not burdening the club with the responsibility of paying off the acquisitional debt, and may have got some good(ish) PR out of it.

Of course, doing that, though, would have meant they couldn't charge 10%, or whatever it was, for their loan to LFC. I guess their greed led to them losing everything.

Don't have a go at me, Rosco, you grumpy-arse !

Don't make me sick some Rotweillers on you an' shit.

WOOF !

I can see where Ross is coming from, however there are a few things to consider. I assume FSG brought us as they got us at the right price and could see a return somewhere down the line, and that return is not going to happen with us thrashing around not far above mid-table. They have already remarked on the lack of depth in the squad, and have shown themselves not averse to spending big.
they know further investment is necessary for things to start moving. They were willing to spend at least another £10 m in Jan, we also must have £15 m in the bank for Aqualani in the summer , so I don't think £30m plus is unthinkable , if we off-load a couple of fringe players too we could see that rise.

Your point is a valid one, and useful in clarifying what people's expectations should be, if you'd state it with a bit of subtlety. What you've just said there is unbelievably wrong. The "media narrative" that H&G were dragging the club down is not just the media narrative, but simply what actually happened when viewed as a whole.

There are issues at the club beyond the servicing of interest, and the fact that that interest has gone away does not mean it can all be spent. That's a reasonable statement. Stating that the club was slightly subsidized by H&G when the overwhelming reason why we were in freefall was their inability to service debt which was not primarily due to running the club is not reasonable.

We should easily be able to raise 20m from sales, i don' think it's expecting too much for them to roughly match this figure.

With the squad we currently have, we won't win the League. Europa league is a possibility and should be a priority without having to sacrifice the fight for a top 4 finish. We have an outside chance with the big hitters above us all playing one another.

Poulsen, Jova, Maxi, Konchesky, Kyrgiakos, Aquilani, Ngog and possibly Cole will raise us quite significant funding.

Investment to challenge for CL footy is necessary, let alone challenge for the Premiership which is FSG's priority!

I think the strategy will be to get us to a competitive position with a reasonable outlay and then maintain it through youth and guile

regards

The owners will probably invest in the squad regardless this summer, as they know we need that short term.
As they've said there isn't a transfer kitty and if we want a player than we could sign him, if he ticks the right boxes.

It's a big summer for them and we'll probably see something like 6 players leave.

Getting in Marvaeux and Taiwo on a free would be good though, very good.

Either way its gonna a big summer for us. Exciting times ahead and I can't wait.

I hope we get in a LB (Taiwo) and LW (Marveaux) free that goes straight into the starting XI, then a top quality RW and CM is a must as first teamers. Youth and guile for back up is acceptable.!

Tbh I think we desperatly need a new top class CB aswell. Skrtel has to go for me, to many mistakes and not good enough. We need a commanding figure at the back.

We probably need 5-6 players

I agree but 5-6 players is ambitious to go into the first team. I'd settle for 4 mentioned above with 2 good youth prospects like Bojan and Eriksen to strengthen the squad because they would need time to adjust to the pace and physicality of the Premiership.

If Skrtel goes (and I'm not convinced he should, as he's improving under Kenny) we'll need more steel at the back to combat players like Drogba. In a straight-out physical battle Skrtel's still our best bet. Kyrgiakos can handle it against slower players, but he doesn't have Skrtel's pace.

JJ, I think that we can get away with flogging an improving Skrtel but the Greek is more likely to leave for Wolves or someone.

Drogba probably isn't gonna last beyond another season or too at the Chavs, however the rest of the Premiership will have an ever improving Carroll to contend with.

Carragher will ,be playing less and less games over time, so I'm not convinced one of Skrtel or Agger has to be sold.

But regardless of what happens, we do need a CB who resembles a young Sami Hyypia. That would be lovely.

Personally I think we should get rid of as few as is necessary, as we need to build the strength of the squad, I said before the litmus test for our improvement is when Lucas and Dirk are warming the bench more often than not, I think the same probably applies to Skrtel, who has two bad errors in him every game. We should be trying to blood Wilson as often as we can, its just that every game is so important, to at least see if he has it or he has not

regards.

As a general rule of thumb, any free transfers we sign are going to be fucking garbage.

I KNEW, just knew that Jovanovic would be shit without ever seeing him play, so why would the dopes that fucking scouted him make such an error?

Marveux is shit until he proves otherwise.

Indeed going on the adage - "if something looks to goo to be true - it probably is" you are right Hal.
Have we had a free that was worth having, other than Gary Mc?

Babbel?

I don't trust them, plus they are invariably on massive wages to compensate for the lack of a fee.

Exactly, Vlad. So when I hear that we're linked to somebody on a Bosman I've never heard of, ie. Jovanovic & Marveaux, I instantly feel myself overcome with dread.

STAY AWAY!

UNKNOWN FREEBIES ---> SHIT

WELL KNOWN FREEBIES ---> OK or GOOD (exception Zenden, Cole)

Babbel, McAllister Staunton, Litmanen, Fowler, Aurelio = WELL KNOWN FREEBIES

Meijer, Voronin, Jovanovic, Degen = UNKNOWN FREEBIES

Taiwo = WELL KNOWN = Probably decent signing

Marveux = UNKNOWN = Probably shit
