FORUM UPDATES: Potential Downtime

All,

We're planning on making some changes and updates to the forum and this may involve some disruption in forum availability for the following dates:

Thursday 22nd October
Friday 23rd October
Thursday 29th October
Friday 30th October

Obviously, we'll try and keep any disruption to a minimum but, if you experience issues on those dates, you'll know what it is.

Yes, first and foremost we want to update to core forum software that should make us less liable to spam attacks and other security flaws.

Once that's in place we will be spending some time implementing some new features that you can all play with.

We'll disclose information on the changes as they happen. I'm looking for volunteers who can help test out the changes on the above dates. Any takers?

Cheers jono. We're still finalising the list of changes but all we're looking for is testing that the usual functionality still works and obviously the new mods work when we make them.

An 'ignore' facility would be invaluable, but it only works when the 'ignoree' knows he or she is being ignored. Otherwise they continue to direct comments that are then quoted by others and the whole thing breaks down.

I doubt someone knowing they're being ignored will stop them from posting comments. It's an ignore button, not mind control.

I don't want an ignore button, partly because I've got a funny feeling a higher proportion of my already unnoticed posts will go MIA but also because you've got to be a total clunge to not be able to tolerate someone's post's on a football forum

Also, if person A started a thread but person B had person A on ignore and the thread turned out to be a bit of a fitty, would person B be able to see the thread?

I've no idea whatsover but we'll put it in as a trial seeing as people on here have the inability to ignore those who piss them off. If it's unpopular we can always remove it. We're trying to put in some new additions to the site. The popularity of some may be trial and error but we're hoping they'll contribute to improving peoples experience on here.
