Surprised he failed first time around but would he be an option for us as a back-up to Carroll ? Do we need him (or A.N.Other) or can Dirka Dirka do the job ?

IMO we do need 3 proven strikers (though we may end up with Wickham of course).

Atletico Madrid say striker Diego Forlan is likely to return to England after they made him available for transfer.

The Uruguay international marksman has been a huge hit in Spain following his largely unsuccessful spell with Manchester United.

And that has not stopped the rumour mill surrounding the striker as he has been consistently linked with a Premier League return in recent seasons.

The 32-year-old is now deemed as surplus to requirements at Vicente Calderon and that has alerted top-flight clubs in England, with Tottenham reportedly leading the chase.

Forlan has already rejected the opportunity to go to Turkey with Galatasaray and president Enrique Cerezo says the striker's first choice is the Premier League.

"Diego will decide what happens, but it looks like his first choice will be England," said Cerezo.

Re: Forlan - A Option ?

I would quite like us to sign another striker for back up but I don't really want it to be Forlan.

He's old, he failed in the England the first time and he probably wouldn't even be that cheap.

Re: Forlan - A Option ?

It might be an option for a short term, if he does not mind warming the bench

regards

Re: Forlan - A Option ?

Suarez and Forlan......hmmmmm.

Bit old though.....

Bit of a manc too.....

No.

Re: Forlan - A Option ?

Wasn't Forlan like one of the best strikers in Europe this time last year?

Re: Forlan - A Option ?

He's got great movements and scores lots of goals. Plays really well with Suarez too.
But he's an ex-scum and he probably won't want to settle for a place on the bench.
He'd certainly be a lot better for us than Owen has been for scum.

What happened over the last year then to turn him from that to surplus to requirements at Atletico :S

Better than Owen for United doesn't really equal success though.

Its like buying a new reserve keeper and judging them on whether they are better than Itandje

Re: Forlan - A Option ?

Too old, will be expensive and probably on high wages too. A boxes we don't wanna tick! Moving on.......

But isn't that why we were after Friedel?
Anyway, I'm sure you know what I meant.

BTW I think I'd actually prefer him to be first choice ahead of Carroll and Kuyt to partner Suarez. He's still bloody good.

Re: Forlan - A Option ?

The fact that he can combine well with Suarez is a major plus point granted

The other factors that he was shit last time he was in England, he is old now and probably expensive are less good

Sorted 😉

Don't see why the proposition should sound so preposterous to be honest if he did not cost much/anything.

Wrong. It was mine .... but I just typed too fast 😉

Really? That surprises me a bit. Granted interviews may not show you the private person, but he usually comes across well in them.

i'd have big diego. Like all south americans he'd get on boss with lucas and maxi

Coincidentally a Villa-supporting mate of mine has just e-mailed me reporting whispers that McLeish may want to sign Forskin.

I think he's absolute quality; but he's prob too old, he plays a similar(ish) role to Suarez anyway, and he's a Manc cunt so it's probably a no.

On his way to Inter apparently, as replacement for Eto'o.

Inter target Diego Forlan has been allowed to pull out of Atletico Madrid’s Europa League qualifier against Vitoria Guimaraes.

The Uruguayan is expected to sign for the Italian outfit before the window closes and he’s remained in Madrid to ponder his options.

"Forlan asked Coach Gregorio Manzano this morning not to travel to Guimaraes because he was studying the possibility of signing for another team," Atletico said on their official website.

"Manzano authorised him to stay in Madrid because Atletico have a lot at stake and need players who are 100 per cent."

Forlan is expected to take the place of Samuel Eto’o at San Siro given that the latter has been sold to Russian club Anzhi.
