FIFA/FIFPro World XI for 2010 has been announced. The players in question were Iker Casillas, Gerard Pique, Carles Puyol, Maicon, Lucio, Xavi, Andres Iniesta, Wesley Sneijder, Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and David Villa.

Manager of the year is Jose.

Player of the year to be announced in next few minutes. Nominees are Messi, Xavi and Iniesta.
 
Inter won the treble with José as manager yet none of their players are up for the award.

A bit strange.
 
A player from Glentorran (sp.?) is up for Best Goal In The World.

Be ace if he won.

I guess only performing well in the world cup doesn't matter anymore.
One wonders why Ronaldo wasn't one of the three nominated. Looking at last season he was better than Iniesta (was mainly injured during the season) and Xavi.
 
Yeah, Iniesta is largely there I think because of his WC contribution. He spent too much time injured to *really* influence Barca's season. Xavi won a lot, but he'd have gotten it as a gift for a distinguished career.

Messi was untouchable last season and was *the* standout candidate.
 
I think Sneijder should have won it.

It's all well and good being the most talented player in the world; Messi is.

But this award should be about who led their team to having the best year (as well as being talented). Sneijder won a treble and helped Holland to the WC cup final. You can't do much better than that.

Messi won the year before, for doing pretty much the same thing, and rightly so.
 
Roy must be gutted he wasn't considered. He's very well respected around Europe as a top coach don't you know.
