It’s like they’ve hacked champ manager and whacked up all the financial data.

I’d also be surprised if HMRC hasn’t got every player under investigation.

There was a story this week in rugby as to how certain clubs were getting around the salary cap by setting up business with the players.

Wouldn’t surprise me if City did something similar.

I’m aware that some players have had their image rights sold to an offshore company (eg Tom Smith ltd) which is paid by an offshore club subsidiary company.

When investigating it transpires these rights far exceeds any reasonable amount the club would gain on those image rights. It’s just a way to reduce the players income in terms of PAYE/self assessment. It’s all dodgy as fuck.

It was Portsmouth and Sol Campbell.

[article]
Sol Campbell issued a high court writ against the club last month demanding payment of £1.67m allegedly owed in unpaid earnings, and the breakdown he provided has alarmed the taxman. In 2008, the year Pompey won the FA Cup, Campbell was picking up £30,000 a week. But Campbell claims he was also contracted to earn an equivalent sum through an offshore trust in return for the use of his image in commercial, sponsorship and endorsement deals.

Portsmouth's accounts break down how the club's £70.5m 2008 turnover was achieved. There was £49.2m from being in the Premier League. A further £12m from match-day revenues, £2m from winning the FA Cup and about £7.2m from retail and sponsorship. So to recap: only 10% of Portsmouth's income in 2008 was from commercial and sponsorship streams. Meanwhile Campbell was due to earn 50% or £1.5m of his income for image rights, meaning a fifth of all monies (not profits, mind) Pompey generated from these areas was allegedly contracted to go straight into his offshore account.

There is nothing wrong in this, so long as Campbell paid the tax, and since he allegedly did not receive it there was presumably nothing to pay tax on. But it shows why HMRC is on the case.

Wasnt it reported a while back that Pep got his salary from City and one of the other City co-owned companies or something, so it wasnt all reported in their total wages.

They’ll romp the league now. Siege mentality will kick in. They’ll romp it I tells ya, they’ll romp it.

According to Italian journalist Luigi Guelpa, Guardiola is so keen on a move to Turin that he has given the club his word and agreed in principal to sign a four-year deal.

Guelpa claims his information has come from the same source who last summer broke the news that Cristiano Ronaldo was leaving Real Madrid for Juve.

'I've learned that Pep Guardiola already has reached a verbal agreement with Juventus for the next four years,' Guelpa told Radio CRC.

'It's the same person who told me that Ronaldo was going to Juventus.'

Guardiola, who is under contract at City until the end of the 2020-21 season, has won league titles in Spain, Germany and England.

Juve are on course to win Serie A for an eighth consecutive season.

Rats and a sinking ship? If they’re going to be sanctioned he may not get to spend £250 million this summer

The last time UEFA threatened to do anything, Man City threatened to tie them up in so many legals knots, UEFA had to back down and give them a suspended punishment, and a slap on the wrist (with a squad reduction). I suspect the same will happen here or even less.

The Arabs are so powerfully petty, they would rather spend 200m on lawyers to fight a case against UEFA (and cost UEFA themselves shed loads of money), than to accept paying a 50m fine. They said as much to UEFA the last time.

UEFA are snookered. I'll be surprised if they actually find anything in their "investigation" because finding something would actually mean they would have to do something about it. If anything, this latest investigation will be used to clear their name (ha!).
Frightening that a club use its financial muscle to bully the regulatory body.

I still won't hold my breath waiting for anything to come from these FFP allegations.

Away from FFP allegations a Transfer ban incoming for 2 transfer Windows from FIFA for illegal transfer activity of minors

I said that the other day. He knew this was incoming so wanted to go elsewhere to “challenge himself” by spunking £200 million.
