Has anyone heard what the reported racist chanting was alleged to have been?
Bearing in mind that most Engerlund fans thought Rio's Snub was tantamount to treason, and that everyone thinks they are a pair of twats anyway.

Build a bonfire,
build a bonfire,
put rio on the top ,
put Anton in the middle
and burn the fucking lot.

And

Rio Ferdinand - you know what you are

I think even Piarara Powar would have a hard job making a case for racism out of that

So tell me Vlad why is that Anton should be burned in a bonfire exactly? Why do you think they sang it? Explain to me why Rio Ferdinand and his brother should be burned and what exactly is it that they "know they are". I take your point that it probably isn't directed in the sense that they are being castigated for being black but the truth is the whole ugly situation developed from a racist incident and so at the very least its in fairly shabby taste. Personally i really dont see why they should be barracked from the crowd or on here for that matter.

As for the IRA song, I'm by no means condoning terrorism I'm just an Englishman who doesn't feel that 800 years of dominion over another country is a required core belief in my own sense of patriotism. I love my country enough for it not to be tarnished with ancient hatreds. I have no illusions that anyone in the IRA was doing it just for a laugh. I also can't remember the last time that any provos appealed for my English "surrender" at a football match.

I must be a traitor I suppose, but then I actually quite like Irish people and don't think of car bombs as an instant reaction to meeting one. Maybe im soft and St.George would be ashamed of me.

Sarcasm aside In general I just wish that the tubthumping nasty bullshit in Englands name at football matches would stop.

As for the clearly separate unrelated racism angle, I kind of get the feeling on here that many posters on here seem to feel that all the political correctness has gone too far and Powar and his minions are curtailing reasoned debate in some way or other.... maybe i'm reading too much into the thread.

The way I see it cunt like behaviour however casual should be challenged and pointed out. Hating Ferdinand? for what? Burning him and his brother? for what? You know what you are? Isn't that the exact same song that Chelsea fans sang about Anton after the England captain called him a fucking nigger? Can you not see why that might be construed as racist?

Of course we can see why it might be construed as racist, but lets use the song used by Spurs after Sol Campbell went to Arsenal and he said he suffered from depression and might have committed suicide. The last line involved them singing about him hanging from a tree.

Immediately everyone jumped on it as being racist because he's black and because of the lynching connotations. But is the average footsie fan that clever? Not really. It was, for me, just another excuse for the political correct brigade to cry foul and get wound up. In the same way as the Daily Mail gets it knickers in a twist bout immigration.

Why should we hate Rio? Well he moaned when he was dumped by England because Terry was in the squad, and when he gets recalled, he pulls out under some spurious reason of his training regime, plus the games he's played, despite playing more games for Ud than any of his CB counterparts. Ergo he is perceived as a traitor. Again for me, shoving his brother into the chant just helps it flow better in a lets wind em both up.

Racist? Not for me. Bad taste? Almost certainly, but then most chants about other players generally are! As for the bonfire song, as I've already said, no one care when 75000 "Mancs" sung it every week about Scousers. Why is the sing relevant now?
