Supporters groups Spirit of Shankly and ShareLiverpoolFC have unveiled a new, joint proposal to buy Liverpool.

The supporters' organisations are unhappy with the financial structure of the club following the takeover by Americans George Gillett and Tom Hicks.

The key change to the original "member-share" proposal is a reduction of the share price from £5,000 to £500.

Gillett and Hicks were expected to complete a refinancing of the club's £350m debt on Thursday.

A statement from the SLFC board said: "This is a realistic plan that squares the circle: How to get broadly based fan ownership of the club, and relieve the level of debt, by offering Liverpool fans an affordable entry fee and a chance to get a modest return for their additional financial support.

The supporters' groups first proposed a takeover - the model of which is based upon that operated by Barcelona, Real Madrid and other European clubs - in January 2008.

Initially they hoped to raise £500m from 100,000 fans each paying the £5,000 'entry fee', but this has now been reduced.

The aim is to acquire a 60% stake in the club by raising £150m while seeking a "commercial partner" to invest £100m for a 40% stake.

In June 2009, it was announced the parent company of the club, owned by Tom Hicks and George Gillett, lost £42.6m in the year to August 2008, largely as a result of interest payments that had to be made to service the debt taken on by Kop Football Holdings when it purchased the club in February 2007.

On Tuesday, the BBC learnt that the club were close to renegotiating its debt with the Royal Bank of Scotland - one of the two banks to which it owes money.

Billionaire Arab Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan is poised to pour millions into Welsh premier League side Bangor City after going to university in the town. Bangor's average gate is 400.

Surely some billionaire's must have gone to university in Liverpool.... 🙂

Yeah some loony is going to invest £100m in a venture where the other (majority) partner is a 100,000 mix of fanatics, crackpots and militants.

There seems to be an assumption here that Hicks and Gillett are going to sell for £250m.

Now Rogan Taylor seems to be aligning himself to SOS, it suddenly seems less attractive.

Spot on Vlad - I was all for share liverpool but not so sure now they are partnering with SOS.

I'm sure the people who are buying into share liverpool aren't stupid, they must realize it will take a huge figure to make the yanks part with liverpool. this seems like an exercise in futility.

Exactly, model works for Barca so why not us.
Better than being in debt and having no chance of a stadium or scrambling around 10million each year for new signings.

It seems like a great idea in theory and it does seem to work for Barca, but it just seems so difficult to implement in the first place.

I'm sure barca didn't have to buy out two leeches who wanted a massive return on their minor investment.

FFS will these deluded cunts just give it up.

They're living in cloud cuckoo land. It will never happen.

I thought they'd try to focus on buying a much smaller stake (10%-15%) in LFC at first, by maybe partnering up with another potential buyer.

I still love the idea of the fans one day owning Liverpool FC.

I see they're working from the Madrid negotiations handbook.

"We won't sell for £400m"

"Ok then, how about £250m"

Has anyone actually looked at the Share Liverpool Site ?

If you go to the Register you Interest section : http://www.shareliverpoolfc.exvn.com/forms/Subscribe.cfm

Have a look at question 6 : How comfortable are you that this plan requires us to borrow a large proportion of the funds to enable fans to take control?

Erm ... wasn't the point of the whole operation to relieve the debts ?

A gang of deluded, kiss the badge, we're the heart and soul without any brains, bestest fans in the world.

Stick to plastering lads.

Was you in work today? Did you see Hagars emaila bout the takeover?

All a bit idealistic. Being self sufficient and having no debt or risk is fine if we're just happy just to survive but not if we want to stay competitive.

The Barca model is held up as the benchmark without the realisation that the fans vote in a president based on how much he's prepared to pump into the club, which brings us back to square one.
